Thanks again for the reply,had a bit more of a dig into this and maybe could be the wiring of the twin socket on the towbar as it says in the handbook use the fan fuse but there are 2 and looking at it it appears to be in fuse 4 so maybe getting permanent feed I have just recently bought the car with this fault 2.2 diesel what do you think?  :o

Thanks I will check it out, thought the fan did that as well but you have to literally unplug the wiring at top of radiator also noticed the aux coolant pump disconnected could it be related?

Hi guys not been able to get back on here since started using the site so thanks for the warm welcome,looking for some help regarding my cooling fan running on when key out of ignition did find burnt out relay which I renewed but still not sorted the problem, any ideas would be gratefully received,thanks and merry Xmas too you all.

Hi folks.
I am new to the site and after some advice please. I have 2.2 dti i just bought, the engine fan is running all the time even with keys removed it will run for ages, the aux water pump is disconnected and if connect it drains the battery, could this be the cause ? I am a vw technician so now my way around things a bit but not come across this,found orange relay burnt out so replaced that but not resolved the issue, any ideas folks?
