Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: In Car PC - Omega.com
« on: 15 June 2010, 21:01:35 »
I used a 7inch fold out touchscreen in the dash on mine, the audio ran through my 3ch amp which ran components and a sub.  Worked quite well but there is bugger all room behind the stereo for much wiring so this was the best approach for me.  I always have ran roadrunner with Map Monkey for the nav, missing it now though as I have not bothered putting it into my new car, Volvo S60.

You will need to use a relay for the dixie horns.  Best idea is to have a seperate switch for the dixies.  If not then disconnect both standard horns and use the power from them to the relay for the dixies, although dont be beeping your horn around the police!

Hmmm....wonder if it would be useful if I did a knowledge thread for the greater group on alternator theory, setup, service etc.

Good idea Mark, but I think you should include how to remove the alternator aswell, as the way you did mine was about 5 times faster than the way I did it from the Haynes manual and a lot easier ::)

Omega General Help / Re: Cleaning rear brake pipes
« on: 26 September 2009, 20:24:35 »
OK this is the sort of advice I need before doing it, normally its the sort of thing I hear after I have broken something, I will perhaps use wire wool then, would that be ok?

Omega General Help / Cleaning rear brake pipes
« on: 26 September 2009, 19:15:20 »
Hi guys, I got an advisory on my MOT a while ago for my rear brake pipes, he said they need cleaning up and greasing or painting.  I am planning on having a look at this tomorrow, my plan was to rub them down with a wire brush and then coat them in copper grease.  Is that the best way to do things?  Also I am a bit worried about breaking them, how much do I need to clean them up before greasing?

Richard

Omega General Help / Re: Wet floor, scuttle drain etc
« on: 25 May 2008, 13:44:59 »
Well the rear of the cr has dried out nicely now, but the front still holding quite a bit of water in the sound proofing.  I'm hoping we have some more nice weather to try and get it totally dry next week as having the carpets all propped up is very impractical!  Im also thinking about exactly where this water came from...  Where does the condensation from the air conditioning system go to?  Should there be a pipe under the car somewhere?  I am now trying to find any possible cause of water coming in so I can get them all checked.

Richard

Omega General Help / Wet floor, scuttle drain etc
« on: 19 May 2008, 20:31:07 »
I have got loads of water under the carpet, its all soaked into the soundproofing.  I have read threads about this and checked the scuttle drain.  There was no water in there but the drain was blocked.  Also where the cables go through to the car higher up to the right of the scuttle, the grommit has got a cable going through the hole by the side of the grommit pulling it away from the side.  I cant get this to seal properly so have stuck loads of gaffa tape round it to stop any water getting down there.

Now I have soaking wet soundproofing that I can't seem to get dry as it is so absorbant!  I am leaving the windows and sunroof slightly open all day with the soundproofing and carpets held up with screwdrivers etc but its still not drying out like I hoped.  Is there an easier way of getting the soundproofing dry?  It's the front and the back passenger sides.

Also I don't understand how the scuttle drain being blocked can cause wet carpets, where does the water come in from, pollen filter?  Could the water be coming from anywhere else?  I have already checked the sunroof drains and they drain to the sills on both sides so think they are ok.

Richard

Omega General Help / Alternator - Cheers Mark + Daz
« on: 21 September 2009, 18:44:46 »
After a nice last day of my holiday being towed 8 hours back from the West coast of Wales after my alternator was sparking and smoking.

Got in contact with Mr DTM and picked up an alternator last night.  This is my second alternator change and I think I am starting to get the knack of it now.  I managed to get the new alternator on and all the belts etc back on in 40 mins after I gave myself an hour to do it so I am quite chuffed!

Big thanks to Mark for getting me out of a mess again, and also a big thanks to looknee for helping me out on the phone, all your advice was fantastic  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Car sometimes revving on its own
« on: 26 April 2009, 10:49:47 »
Sorry guys i'm sure I had put the details in before, not sure what happened there.  Its a 3.0 Auto, I will have to check the breathers and ICV although they were clear last time I checked.  Also when I start the car it takes a few turns to fire up and then runs a little bit rough for a few seconds, could this have have something to do with it?

Richard

Omega General Help / Car sometimes revving on its own
« on: 26 April 2009, 10:27:35 »
Hi guys, over the last week my car has twice been revving on its own.  First time it did it the car took quite a while to start and then the revs were much higher than normal about 2 - 2.5k, when I started driving the revs were staying up and pushing the car along even under breaking.  The car did similar last night, I put it into neutral and the revs gradually came down.  Obviously i'm now worried about this as I don't want to have an accident cause the car is pushing me under breaking.  Any ideas on what could be causing this?

On a positive note it seems that my coolant leak has stopped or slowed considerably so have got some time to get prepared to sort the thermostat out  :y

Richard

Omega General Help / Re: HELP! steam and coolant!!!
« on: 13 April 2009, 11:47:13 »
Sounds like it could be the heater bypass valve (HBV)  Check at the back of the engine on the drivers side, right underneath the wiper cover and see if its leaking, try moving the heaters from full hot to full cold as it will probably only leak in one position.  A new valve is about £30 from Vauxhall on Trade Club.
