Since I use my scooter most of the time the Omega has sat with its battery disconnected until this weekend.

I used the car today. The a/c system is dead (as in: no lights, no reaction to the on/off buttons).

Post-mortem revealed that the fuse is blown...

I'll try disconnecting the battery and leave it to sit cold for a while to sort of reset the control modules. Doing that and checking the fuse connections may have an effect...

If that fails I'll head for Opel Service's loving arms for a major ca$hectomy

I've had this car for 3 years without anyone tampering with it, me less than anyone else, as I stay away from electrical wizardry.

My technical knowledge is limited to changing the engine oil and filter every year and the other odd jobs (new wipers, stuff like that)...

I even had the Opel people do the auto gearbox oil/filter change for me.

Omega General Help / Omega 2.5TD year 2000 - A/C panel malfunction
« on: 03 November 2013, 12:21:23 »
Hi all,

I wrongly posted this issue in the introduction forum so I'm re-posting here. Hopefully someone may have seen this before and could help:

The whole a/c panel goes dark without notice, exactly when the car rolls to a stop. This happens when coasting or braking to a stop (engine idling). The button lights, temperature settings and other symbols go out and the heating system stops responding.
After driving off again, the system can be reset: press "off" and "auto" and all is well again until the next stop.

All of the other systems seem fine.

The only solution to the problem I can see is to drive through stops signs and red lights without stopping but I'm not sure the road police will agree to the cure.

Cheers

Another Omega owner joins the club, which I've just discovered by visiting the Vauxhall Omega Parts website. (as I live on the other side of the Channel, the car is an Opel of course...).

It's a nice year-2000 dark-blue 2.5 TD estate with the big BMW 6 cylinder engine, automatic transmission, and a boot large enough to gobble up a full complement of furniture on a house-moving day. This car is also crammed with lots of interesting little surprises that pop up occasionally.

The latest one I've discovered is the "automatic a/c panel blackout". As I drove the 500 miles down from Brittany to Toulouse today I noticed that the whole a/c panel goes dark without notice. This happens when coasting or braking to a stop (engine idling). The lights, buttons, temperature settings and other symbols go out and the heating system stops responding exactly when the cars stops. Every time.
After driving off again, the system can be reset: press "off" and "auto" and all is well again until the next stop.

Are any other members of this club familiar with this - ahem - feature?

Cheers
