Omega General Help / Re: Z22xe engine swap?
« on: 11 March 2015, 14:24:53 »
That's great news guys, thanks.   I think the current engine I was looking at has now been snapped up by someone else, so I'll need to get back out there looking.

I'll update this posting when I've made some progress.

Ah, right.  I was wondering if the codes were different for the auto or manual boxes.   From that point of view - is there anything I need to watch out for.   That is, will a lump from a manual just drop into the auto?

Nope.  Totally dead.  New lump appears to be the best option now.  I'm loath to scrap it as everything else in the car is tip-top!

Omega General Help / Z22xe engine swap?
« on: 10 March 2015, 09:24:32 »
Can a z22xe be fitted to replace a y22xe?

My current car has a broken Z22XE installed.   I want to replace it to get the otherwise perfect car back on the road.  I've found a seller that has a 52 plate with a Z22xe installed but this replaced a Y22XE back in 2008.   Great low mileage of less than 40k but does anyone know what the differences are between both engines that would stop me from swapping?   ie; what may have been changed by the previous engine replacement crew to make the Z22xe fit instead of the Y22xe ?

My own car is the 2.2 auto, just in case it makes a difference.

Cheers in advance.

Omega General Help / 2.2 engine / lump change - HOW?
« on: 22 January 2015, 12:59:27 »
Is anyone able to advise on the steps to swap out a 2.2 petrol engine?   I'm particularly keen to know what to look out for, any tips that avoid having to turn the car upside down etc.

Following my other open link http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=128174.0 I feel this is the only option to me now.

Cheers

okay, managed to get better pics in daylight.

Am still unable to get the pics to show, so please just click on the links. Hope they work.

Andy - the crank timing mark was my first check - all ok in that regard.

Thanks to others who have posted very helpful images and descriptions so far.

some pics, not the best as difficult in the cold and crap lighting.

crank mark is right on the timing pointer.

cam sprockets are both tdc with marks as noted when stripping.

cams - the intake wasn't separated from the sprocket so can't have moved.  exhaust cam and sprocket were split but are keyed back into same position.

here's hoping someone can see the pics and advise what to do next.  cheers

ok, will do that first chance I get, probably wont be until end of this week though.  cheers

once I get the snow cleared from the car I'll get the pics

is it worth removing the cams, so that all valves are closed and then turn the engine over to see if there is some or max compression or would this knacker more things up?

hi, thanks for you thoughts on this.

I've been away with work all week so not had a chance to get back to it yet. plus, it's freezing here at the mo.

I'll need to get hold of another tester to confirm compression first.  Only other thing I can think of is trying another head, but I can't find any at nearest breakers or online.

Probably wont get to look at the car again till next weekend, but please let me know if there are any other ideas.

Cheers
