Yes it looks like the new Insignia will be larger than the last one.

Remember GM in the U.S. sells a number of cars through the Buick brand that are almost identical to Vauxhalls.  The equivalent of the Insignia is the Buick Regal, also on the SWB version of the Epsilon II platform

Buick Regal

There is also a larger model based on the LWB Epsilon II, which is the Buick LaCrosse.  Obviously there is no Vauxhall equivalent, though if there were it would effectively be a new 'Omega'.  In the Buick range the LaCrosse is to the Regal what the Omega was to the Vectra.

The current LaCrosse will be replaced in a year or two and there has been some (probably idle) chatter that a Vauxhall/Opel version could be on the cards... Unlikely perhaps, but then there really would be an Omega-sized big Vauxhall again.

Finally, Buick produced a concept car this year called the Avenir.  In my opinion a true beauty.  Imagine this in the UK with the Griffin badge...  ;) Unlikely to go into production, but it's style may influence the next Lacrosse and to an extent Regal, which may also have a knock on effect to how Vauxhalls look down the line.

It's not a nice feeling mate, I have been there with several cars that had run their course and reached the end of the line and I don't ever remember either selling or scrapping a car and not feeling at the very least a twinge of sadness, usually worse.

General Car Chat / Re: Interesting 'how many left' question
« on: 03 July 2015, 20:35:08 »
Anyone who has ever registered a car for the first time, and grappled with the DVLA retards, will know how accurate these figures are.

There are probably umpteen uncounted Omegas registered as everything from "Suffolk Punch" to "Spitfire Mark IX". ;D

Hehe, laughed at that.  You are spot on, the two big problems with ''how many left'' as goes older cars are a) the same cars are known under multiple different versions of their names and b) any car that has been off the road before the SORN system came in is not sorned.  I have a 1975 Wolseley thats been off the road since 1988 and so has never been sorned and doesn't show up on the records.

Also a lot of Crestas on that list but that includes all the different shapes over three decades, totally different cars really just sharing the name.

How many Viscounts left I wonder?  The Senator of the PC Cresta range, big Impala-esque barge in its day

Had a look at one the other day, think it might do nicely for my better half at some point.  She likes tiny city cars with eco friendly engines, no tax, easy / cheap to fix and it seems to fit the bill.

Yeah, sadly the big Vauxhalls, from the PB Crestas to the Viscounts, Royales, Senators etc don't have the kind of cult following the big Fords do.

That said, speaking as a long time BL/Rover fan, it is only over the last decade that cars like the SD1 or the Princess have gone from total and utter ridicule to star car status.  But the big Rover 800 - a car I love and have owned various models of - languishes in the ''it's crap'' category still.  How long till that changes, if ever?  Will it take some kind of outbreak of nostalgia for the 90s??

There is at least one big Vauxhall that tops a lot of people's wish lists - yes, even beyond a bronze Granada Mk 1 - and that is the Vauxhall Cresta PA.  On styling grounds alone it is just epic, in my eyes at least.  And nowadays worth a small fortune

In Beverley, East Yorkshire at the (notorious) Grovehill Roundabout on Sunday (21st) - a silver/grey saloon, reg number was something like YP53 ***

I wasn't driving my Omega at the time (was in the wife's Aygo) but got very excited at my first Omega spot in Beverley for a good while.

Pointed it out to my better half, who replied ''I don't get it, you saw one 5 minutes ago parked in our drive...''   ;D ::) ;)

See you have the broken glovebox latch, one of the pro's of owning a omega  ;D :y

Yeah the catch still works, just, if I don't mind the risk of shredding my finger...  I'll check out the guide on the forum to fitting a new one I think  :)

Hi folks,

Been lurking for a while but first time posting.  My uncle had a dark red Omega in the mid/late 90s, lovely car, probably responsible for sparking my interest.  My grandad, just prior to stopping driving, almost bought a silver facelift model, but it never happened as the garage wouldn't offer him as much in part exchange as he was after.

I've tended to have a lot of big Rovers over the years, like SD1s, 800s and 75s and some Jags, to go alongside the odd (boring) more practical car from time to time.

Big lover of the older large Vauxhalls, everything from the Wyvern and Velox models of the 50s (another Grandad had one of those at one point), through the fintail Crestas, the Viscounts, Carltons and Senators etc.  The Senator was one of the cars as a kid in school that I wanted to grow up to own.

Here's my car.  A W-Reg 2.5 CDX Auto.  I have some questions to ask at some point as the car needs a few bits and bobs and a little work doing.  Thanks for looking  :)

Chris
