Omega General Help / Re: Leave new battery standing?
« on: 04 December 2015, 12:37:57 »
Personally i would change it over once the new battery was purchased. if the old battery is dying then you could always end up driving somewhere and be stranded with the battery packing up completely and not being able to start your car.

But i would see no reason why it wouldnt be ok leaving it for a few weeks, if it has a indicator on it just make sure its showing green, and if you have a multimeter or volt tester i'd attach them to check its levels incase it needs a charge. i dont know how cold your garage is but with it being winter the likes of batteries dont like the low temperature.

Sounds like it could be egr on its way out, starts off cutting out randomly now and again then over time gets worse, although this generally happens when your coming to a stop, need to clear the codes with any diagnostic tool that has that feature, drive the car for a few days and see if management light comes on and recheck 'stored' fault codes to see if any have been logged but not put the management light on. this will give you a clearer idea of what is going on.

cheers

Could be down to your servo unit, a retaining clip could have come loose or rod popped off which wouldnt allow the flaps to operate. the 'arm' u mention could have come off again, or at the other end. it would be a case of tracing items from behind the climate panel and see if anything is missing/broken, it can be a pain because of access.

Your welcome and good luck  :y
the matrix pipes can be tricky but keep wiggling them with a bit of force and they will come off, double check when you reattach them that they have clicked back in properly.

temperature is still shown and can be controlled. I wonder if its a fuse

If the fan blower is not working then i would check the fuses first then look it to the wiring behind the climate panel and on the air blower.

Mine has just started playing up today, it wont reset. Just looked behind the glovebox and found the arm had come off so I pooped it back on. ive tried to reset it all but nothing happens apart from some clicking behind the climate panel. none of the motors or flaps move and the air recirc is not working neither is the direction. earlier everything worked.

Could someone point me in the right direction please

Regards

Jim

on your climate panel does it show the temp setting and fan setting or is it just (--) on the display?

I agree with entwood, sounds more likely to be matrix at fault, flush it with a hose pipe until water runs clear and then back flush it, see how it goes after that.
Both my matrix pipes get hot but gonna get round to flushing anyway just to rule it out.
Im not too sure about applying suction to the vacuum line but i should imagine it would do as you said.

Im having same problem, started with water pump failure so changed that, did usual top up sytem and run up to temp to bleed it, since then theres no heat in the cab, still had a water leak and changed hbv, didnt sort leak or temp, gauge reads 90 while driving and up to about 97 when stood still til fan kicks in. sorted the leak out as split in a pipe and coolant burning off on exhaust so couldnt see signs of a leak, tried a couple of times to reset heater control.
i even tried the screw in hbv vacuum pipe but no joy, next thing to do is flush matrix or replace with old hbv incase the replacement is faulty but other than that only thing i can think of is a vacuum problem somewhere but as you say the weather is not on our side at the moment. plus with me using the car regular i dont fancy burning my hands on a hot engine. i hope to tackle it in next few days and find the cause. when car is idling the fan blows cold, but hard throttle and starts to blow warm.
if i sort it i will let you know as could help you get nearer to solving yours, in the mean time do keep us posted as could help others with same problem

Cheers

thank you....i will give that a go......as i havent done it that way around..cheers. :y

No problem, if you get stuck with anything just post back.

Is there any specific reason why it needs resetting? i.e are you have any problems with the heating

Hi there,
Turn everything off, then with your left hand (thumb on on/off button - finger on auto button) hold both buttons and remain held as you turn ignition on (no need to start engine) keep buttons pressed until you hear the heater reset (could take 5 - 30 seconds)

Thats how ive done mine a couple of times so hopefully should be same as yours.

 :)

Temp seams to read normal, 92 degrees constant driving, slowing down/standstill rises to about 98 and fan kicks in.

i know usually thermostat issues will either be one of 2 things, constantly overheat or run too cold. gonna try and get round to flushing matrix out this weekend and if not sorted then possibly inspect/change stat.

hopefully its not head gasket related  :-\ :-\

**UPDATE**

Finally managed to get some free time to properly look over the car and strip it down.
nothing out of the ordinary was found at first, but on closer inspection of the hose that runs from the coolant bridge to hbv there was a split in the pipe.

Just at the edge of the spring clamp was letting out water i imagine when the hose heats up and expands, with the tear being directly above the exhaust downpipe it was burning off straight away.

Fitted new pipe and so far all is ok.

But about 3 days before i stripped down the car the cabin heaters wont blow hot air, with engine at full temp i switch blowers on and hot air comes out but gradually over 60 seconds drops to cold, if car is stood still and i rev it then still remains blowing cold.
If im driving and open throttle pretty hard then hot air will come out until i drop revs.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Have you checked the rad whilst engine running.I could not find a leak until I found a tiny leak on the bottom corner of the rad. As the rad is hot the water burns off and the leak is hard to find.

checked radiator during my many checks, nothing seen, done a few cold starts and run up to temp whilst checking for leaks and steam. switched off and continued checking to see if anything appeared while engine was cooling down, again nothing. plus nothing has shown with the leak dye using uv light. only thing left is a pressure test and major strip down as other members have suggested.

As said, half a litre regardless of journey length is a significant leak. Are you saying that if you didn't top it up when the coolant level reached near the bottom of expansion tank it wouldn't lose any more?
Maybe time for a pressure test to eliminate the expansion tank.  :-\

[/quote]

Correct, Thats why i suspected the expansion tank and/or cap, if i dont top up it wont completely empty the tank, there would always be some although little left.

Thanks for all the replies guys, i'll pressure test it over the next couple of days and if that doesnt shed any lights gonna be a strip down job. (this is gonna be fun LOL)
