Hi,

So basically even if someone with the know how on here by the time I slip them some cash for doing it I will be looking at over 300 quid?

Do I need to have load levelling ones? Is it possible these may have been put on by a previous owner towing a caravan?

Omega General Help / Shock Absorbers 2.2 Diesel

Hi all,

I had my Omega on the ramp having hand brake tightened the other day. When doing so I mentioned to the mechanic that I when I go over pot holes, speed bumps etc there is a noise from the rear of the cat. He had a look and said both shock absorbers would fail the next MOT.

He also said that they are load levelling ones (means nothing to me as I am not technical).

Does anyone know the typical cost of repairing this job at a garage, or is anyone able to undertake this task for me?

I am based on the edge of North Gloucestershire but happy to travel anywhere really if it is likely to save me lots of money.  2 months ago I was quoted 600 quid for a ballast at a garage, I ended up getting this sorted for 10 quid plus fuel from a lovely chap on here.

I can get to Bristol no problem. Do you have a working ballast?

I can get there tomorrow but would need to leave about 1pm, or can be there Sunday up until 11.30 or after 3?

Hi all,

So yes seems they confirm it is the ballast... but they originally called it another name.

Can anybody fix this and if so what price... and where are you based.

It is such a solid car... and only has 100600 on the clock... I am sure it could just keep going and going no rust or anything else wrong...

Hi there,

Recently I had my passenger side dipped headlight replaced at Halfords autocentre. I thought this would be the end of my drama.

However they said this hasn't fixed it and another part needs replacing, which powers the headlight. I can't remember the exact terminology as he quickly said after the total cost to replace 620 quid!!!!

This shocked me and unfortunately is not a cost that I can afford, I bought the car for only 800 pounds and that was 4 months ago, however the car has grown on me and I would like to keep using it.

It is a 2.2 litre diesel estate - Elite model.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

I own a 2.2 Diesel Estate - Elite model - registration KS52 TVZ.

My dipped headlight bulb needs replacing, not normally an issue but I pulled into a Halfords earlier and they said unfortunately they can't replace as they are a Xenon bulb? However when trying to obtain quotes from garages they all seem puzzled that a car of that age would have a Xenon bulb. I didn't realise that this Halfords store actually has an autocentre round the corner and they basically said they have had instances where the staff sell the wrong bulb.

Does it seem right that this car would have a D2S Xenon bulb which is what the store assistant advised? How can I tell - can I tell by looking at the headlight?

If so can anyone recommend anywhere in Gloucestershire Worcestershire Warwickshire area to have this job fixed.

Finally can anyone recommend somewhere to buy the part cheaply, so that any garage also isn't charging a mark up on this as well as a hefty labour fee.
