The part number cannot be seen here.

"GM 90 457 649" and "90 457 666" are the two original part numbers, these are absolutely one and the same part.
 
I think it split because it worn out. I wouldn't say it is a symptomatic of some other problem. It's just all the parts have their age, soon or later it happens to them.


Here are the alternative parts:

The difference between them depends only on a chassis number. So if you give me yours, I can check the right one for you.

I'd stick with Gates. For your car there can be a few suitable kits. Can you tell your chassis number (vin), I can check it
Thanks, VIN no. is WOLOVBM35Y1166231. In the past I have put a low mileage 3.0 kit on my 3.2 and it fitted OK. I think any kit will do, and being a miser I go for the cheapest. One day I shall come unstuck, then all members may laugh. But the car only cost me £302, last belt change,  previous owner forum member ajsphead believed, was 5 years and 38000 miles ago, only record I have is Mr. Simon Davies t/a Just VW, saying 'New MOT & oil change, receipt for cambelt' and attached is an invoice from WRS Motaquip for K0245453XS timing belt'. So make of timing belt, and whether it was ever fitted, are uncertain. The car is a facelift 2.5 CDX manual petrol estate in wonderful condition, no rust, so cambelt change seems sensible.

after a recent post regards oil changing & having answers that included converting to a screw on type. if I wished to alter mine what will I need & how will I know which filter to use. :-\ :y

You'll need to buy oil and oil filter. And if you change oil the air filter should be replaced too.
I can tell you the part numbers for filters, if you give more information about your car

It can be the upper engine gaskets or crankshaft gaskets.

Perhaps the problem is really in a faulty thermostat, it's probably jammed.
At least it is not so expensive, so you can start with it. Anyway it can't hurt to replace it ;)

it's not necessary to use a sealant. but if you want to, the best one, as to me, is Victor Reinz, it's called REINZOSIL. It hardens fast and it’s resistant to high temperatures (200-300 degrees)

it can be due to:

-   an increased gap between the rocker and the valve stem or the wear of these parts, inaccurate adjustment of the gap during engine assembly.
-   perhaps there is a large main bearings wear. Another symptom is the reduction of oil pressure in the engine lubrication system. How to fix? It is necessary to replace the main bearing shells.
-   connecting rod bearings worn. So they should be replaced.
-   the increased gap between the pistons and cylinders. You need to replace worn parts with the new standard size
-   early ignition or the increase of the gap between the piston pins and con rod bushings in the piston boss

The issue is with clutches. If you use car oil for your bike you can mess-up your clutch as the friction modifiers in most car engine oils use special additives to make the oil even better in lubricating. The additives to oil for cars mean less friction.
 
So my recommendation is to stick with special bike oil
