Omega General Help / Model/2.2 Diesel Advice

As a family we have owned Omega 2.5/2.6 estates for at least ten years. The current one is virtually dead and I'm thinking about a 2.2 diesel replacement. I know they are much coarser (driven one) but they seem to be cheaper to run and maintain. It will be used a load lugger for fishing tackle, university kit and garden waste in the main.
Specifically I'm concerned about determining the cam chain change intervals. I have read sections of the forum but cannot find anything related to diesels. Does the chain need replacing regularly? Or is it the tensioner and associated parts only necessary?
