Final drive ratio or differential ratio are the same.

You calculate the ratio by dividing the number of teeth on the crown wheel (37) by the number of teeth on the pinion (10).

37/10 = 1:3,7000 - (the input shaft turns 3.7 turns for 1 turn of the rear wheels)

Fit a 3.7 differential and you will be fine :y
Thanks will look now on internet sites around he to see I I can get one , if not will go out around the scrap yards and try and find on thanks alot :y :D

Ok on the gear ratio chart which Kevin Wood  sent me it states that the final drive ratio is 3.45
On the chart that I have put a link to up the page it says 3.7 .. ratio which I think is differential ratio put please look at my link to make sure on this.
My car is a 2000 year which was produced from 1997 to 2000 and is a 2.0 DTI  101 hp and 74 kw manual

I think I understand that the final drive ratio is  gearbox shaft differential  ect all added up and some subtracted to give you the final drive ratio which is were the 3.45 comes from ( I think) so does that mean that the differential is a 3.45 or is it a 3.7 .. the only reason I'm trying to make sure is that I'm doing this job my self and I have never done anything like this before , apart from oil change ect and ones I tuck my inlet manifold of my transit and cleaned it but that's it ,  so I am sorry about double checking everything but I don't want to mess it up . :-[

might be useful, although that reflects later models sold into the UK market.

I believe the diff is the same between saloon and estate models, however, so that should widen your search a little. Manual 3.0 V6 cars had the 3.7 diff ratio, but I would imagine yours is likely to be the 3.45 which was exclusive to the diesel cars.

Thanks for the charts I understand them now and they make it alot Easyer. I've put a link on page two which shows all the diff ratios and what engine code ect it mite be useful for some one else one day . But it says mines a 3.7 but on the specs for my car on the internet  it say final drive ratio is 3.45 for my car I don't under stand which one is my ratio of my diff can you help on this one please  :)

I understand the charts now, they make it alot Easyer to understand what the differed ratios change. Brilliant thanks

Ok another question , what ratios on the diff do the differed engines have , just so I know which one I should go for as the list I got of the internet I thing is wrong . Thanks :-[
3.45, 3.7, 3.9, 4.22.

Ive already said which one I believe yours is and which one you should try and fit, assuming you can find one.

Thanks for reminding me  :y

I've just noticed I am running on 16" wheels which the car came with and on the spec it says 15"  how much will this impact on the performance. Sorry yes I should have noticed this before .

But it shows that I'm leaning from you guys ..

And please keep sending me you thoughts and ideas please as over here they do like to do things by the book and belief  that's the only way you can do it , when I said to a Bulgarian mechanic about changing my diff for a different ratio one  here just looked gone out at me and after ten seconds just said crazy man and walked away .

Will clean intake out when I have the car on the road again , I did this to my transit around six years ago , as I was using it to bring my stuff over here to Bulgaria and it made a big difference , I've Sean on the internet about taking the turbo off and giving that a good clean will this do much ?.

And thanks for the charts but a little bit to advanced for me at the moment, and my car is off the road untill I fit a differential .

Thanks again everybody

Thanks for your messages .  My 2.0 DTI is very sluggish going up hills ect and when pulling out to overtake  and just seems under powered so if is a 3.45 ratio and I put in a 37.10  this would give it a bit more poke ??
