Omega General Help / really bad misfire on my 2.5 V6
« on: 23 August 2011, 21:50:01 »
Hi y'all.

I guess I know the answer to this but want to run it past you all anyway...

I've just suffered the heater bypass valve failure that leads to coil pack failure thing, but after replacing both the car still misfires incredibly badly under load! Idles perfectly.

About 6 months ago I had to replace the rocker cover gaskets and the plug lead stem thinggies must have been totally immersed in oil for months.

Has this oil-soaking damaged my plug leads? Is it possible to replace them without taking the engine out  ;) ?

I'm on a budget and have found new sets of leads for circa £30. Will these be OK? I've seen sets for £300!

What are the chances the new coil pack (non VX) is faulty?

Any tips, advice, ultimate answers?

It's a 2.5 V6 S-Reg (1998/99)

Cheers,
S.

Omega General Help / engine code help please...
« on: 22 May 2011, 21:50:54 »
Hi all,
I used a paper clip to read the engine codes on my 2.5 v6.

I get the initial 212121
then 59 (three times)
then 31 (three times)
then it repeats with 212121 etc

Does this mean my codes are simply 59 (Intake Manifold Valve 1 Voltage Low) and 31 (No Engine RPM Signal).

If so, does anyone have any ideas as to why these would show up.

I recently changed the rocker cover gaskets and, as I'm sure you all know, I had to disconnect about a hundred wires and pipes. Do you think I missed some when reconnecting?

Does any one know where to start looking?

Thanks for any help.

S.

As per all the above....

Also, what service record do you have, specifically when were the timing belt and tensioners changed?  Its the tensioners that fail and when they do, it will wreck the engine.  They need changing at 40k miles or 4 years.....

And welcome to the site!   :y

Many thanks!

I have the complete service history - belt and tensioners were replaced early this year.

Omega General Help / Omega Newbie queries
« on: 05 November 2007, 02:08:07 »
Hi, Just got a very nice Omega 2.5 V6 GLSi, my first Vauxhall. I have a few minor queries and I was hoping some old hands could help me out...

It sometimes idles roughly, but generally it runs and sounds fine. It will almost stall, then I guess the engine management computer recovers it, it's OK for a while then it will slow and almost stall again. Do I need to follow the Idle control valve cleaning procedure detailed in the tech section of the forum?

The dot matrix display has lines of dots missing - Because I'm new to Vauxhall and Omegas this is the first or only one I have seen so don't know if mine is a half height, 8 or 10 digit etc. It shows the temperature and radio station name. Is it possible to swap it out for a working one? Will any of those mentioned in the FAQ fit or do I have to get the same one again? Is it an easy job?

Where is the oil filter? It's not where it says it should be in my Haynes manual and I can't see anything that resembles an oil filter.

How the *&!@£ do I get the spark plug out nearest the passenger compartment? Is it an engine-out job? I can just see the service engineers sucking air though their teeth and shaking their heads.

I have two different models of ignition key. One has quite rubbery lock/unlock buttons the other has hardish blisters. The blister key needs a new battery - how do I open it?

What model is my Vx Omega? It's an S reg, has no rear head restraints, window controls are in the center, it has radio controls on the adjustable steering wheel, no sunroof, does have air con, (non-calibrated) speedo reads to 160mph, I don't know what type of headlights it has but they have short chrome tubes inside with thick lenses. I'm guessing minifacelift?

Thanks in advance. This looks like a friendly and useful forum - I'm looking forward to mooching around.
