Omega General Help / Re: Severe Oil Leak on V6 2.5
« on: 13 December 2007, 12:42:53 »
Sounds similar-ish to the oil leak mine had (3.0 v6) - ended up replacing the cam cover gaskets out of due course as they were weeping slightly, but the main oil leak was from the seal where the oil cooler pipes join to the radiator in the valley of the engine - it was leaking heaps of oil like yours sounds like it is, and it cost a couple of new washers (and a lot of backbreaking hours) to fix..
anyway - she's not leaking any more oil now :)

OK - champ! thanks.
Last question before i go running off to maplins, is the shield connected up as the third wire on the 3 pin connector that goes to the crank sensor? or are there three wires on the inside running through with a grounded shield?

Thanks
Ben

OK thanks a lot for this - I bought some 240v 3 core lamp wiring - not particularly heavy duty stuff thinking this would probably do the job, shouldnt have a high impedance, although does it need to be shielded in a particular way (like, is this giving some kind of a signal that needs to be particularly clean, or does it give just an on/off signal via a switched voltage?)

Cheers for your help!!

Omega General Help / Crank sensor wiring help!
« on: 11 December 2007, 09:33:40 »
Hi guys!
hopefully you can help me out. Ive replaced the crank sensor on my Omega 99 Mv6 3.0 v6, and it has fixed my stalling problem.. most of the time.
Ive found the problem is actually a broken wire very close to the connector that connects to the sensor wiring.
My question is, where does this wiring run to? ie. Runs from the crank sensor, along the rear of the engine to pins 6,7,8 on the ECU?
I was planning on chopping a part of the cable up to the connector and replacing as much of the wiring as I can access, but then thought it might be easier to just run a new trace directly to the ECU, assuming you cant buy a part of the loom, eg just the connector and some wiring to repair it.

Also, is there any specific type of cable I need to use?
Cheers,
Ben

Omega General Help / Re: Help - possible oil leak locations?

"I agree, but it's described as being up above - there's not much more up by that part of the engine that can leak, is there?   "
No - well thats what I was thinking, if it was the head gasket then it would be contaminating the water / vice versa (thank god its probably not that), or other auxillary bits and pieces, but to be honest this is the first exposure ive had to this engine so its all a bit of a mystery as to whats where in the engine bay!

OK - i just had a look in the drivers side rear spark plug lead hole, and there is some oil in there, definately not a well of oil, but there is definately some there. Not sure if its old or not though..
i couldnt check the passenger side - theres a fuel rail in the way :(

Where do the oil cooler pipes run into?

Omega General Help / Help - possible oil leak locations?
« on: 14 November 2007, 21:15:57 »
Hey guys
hopefully i'll be able to contribute to your forum in time! - but maybe you guys can give me a bit of a hand
Ive just bought a mv6 manual estate (3.0 99)..
Ive noticed she is leaking oil like a sieve.. there doesnt seem to be any evidence it has been a long term leak (not much splatter and the oil hasnt travelled too far down the back of the car) but it is leaking a reasonably serious amount of oil.. about a drip every 2 seconds while running!
I cant really see where its coming from, but it looks like somewhere above the starter motor on the drivers side, towards the rear of the engine.
whats around here? any possible suggestions on what would leak that much oil? i wouldnt have thought a rocker cover gasket would have leaked out that much..  :-?
its also potentially in the centre somewhere, as the oil seems to have run down both sides of the bell housing and is dripping off of the bottom nuts of where the bell housing mates to the engine..
I guess ill have to pull the scuttle cover off on the weekend but was hoping you guys might be able to give me some insight on possibles to put my mind at rest before I have to do it - dont have much time free on the weekend!!

Cheers in advance!

Hey all!
Just a quicky to introduce myself - just bought a 99 Omega estate MV6, new to these cars, although they are really similar to the Holden Commodores we have in Australia!
Im reasonably proficient with cars, in Aus I have a Mitsubishi Magna (3.5l v6 with a ton of modifications) so am pretty used to tinkering with cars - changed the Magna over from an Auto to a manual which was a first that anyone had done (we have a similar forum there - aussiemagna.com) also wired up a Greddy aftermarket computer amongst a whole heap of other stuff..

Anyway, Im living here in London now on a more or less permanent basis, and the Omega is a nice upgrade from Betsy, my 91 escort 4 banger which was driving me nuts!!
I picked up the Omega last night, and have been really happy with it so far, seems like a pretty wicked car, although on the (long) drive home, she started to stall.. (noooooooo!!).
I have a feeling it could have been a dodgy batch of fuel from a nondescript middle of nowhere majorly overpriced rest stop, because it got a bit better when i diluted it down with some other fuel, but it still worries me a bit.

Anyhoo - Hi ! - i guess ill make a post in one of the other sections regarding this problem so I can get her fixed up, but does anyone have an electronic copy of the service manual they can send me?
Cheers,
Ben
