if you have already tried 10 attempts and then its said safe it is locked and bsaically knackerd im led to believe. happened to me on cd changer.

these symptoms are identical to mine. i also have checked plug wells etc and paperclip test shows no codes.replaced ht leads as well. going to check coolant temp sensor when rain clears. is there any thing i need to use to clean it up?

well guys feelin bit of a tit. always check the obvious. didnt remove plugs because they only few months old. took them out today very dirty. no 3 plug wet with fuel obviously not firing. replaced plugs and hey presto back to life. thanks for all your help. :D :D

if it was spark or fuel flow why would it only happen when warm?. had new leads fitted. :-/

both cam and crank sensors recently replaced. :-/

no oil or water in plug wells all dry. problem happens when engine warms up .no mayo on dip stick or oil filler cap.car runs very short journeys. any more ideas would be grateful. ;)

hi all. hope someone can help.i have 98 2.0 auto estate. engine running fine stopped at traffic lights.went to pull away engine rattled ,loss of power ,lots of smoke from exhaust. lasted a few minutes then ran normally.this happens sporadically.usually starts first time but sometimes takes a while. engine turns ok strong battery but wont fire. once started runs ok til it all happens again. any ideas i love this car but im no mechanic by any means.thanks.

sounds like cam or crank sensor. common problems . i had to replace both within afew months .
