Omega General Help / Re: Engine cut out
« on: 24 April 2009, 22:15:12 »
yep will get that temp sensor replaced soon. Your right gauge is independent of temp sensor connected to ECU.

for the car cut out problem, fuel pump was checked, fuel filter changed, crank sensor replaced, fuel injectors cleaned, throttle body cleaned, icv cleaned couple times.  Dont know where else to look.

it doesnt cutout if im already pressing on the pedal and then press more. it cuts out only when i press the pedal after my foot being away. hesitates then cuts out. also if i accelerate real slow it doesnt cut out.

been having the same problem for sometime, and still cant figure it out. Despirately i bought a new MAF and that didnt fix the problem.

Difference is that im getting a code 15 (engine temp sensor) with the 73 which i doubt would cause the engine to behave that way. will get that replaced first.

i was thinking it might be the ICV, cleaned it many times, problem didnt go.

does that mean i have to replace the ICV? heard its an expensive part. and i already had it cleaned 2 times this year.

is there a way to test if thats the reason for engine stalling?

Omega General Help / Auto Gear box prob?
« on: 25 December 2008, 11:29:30 »
Hey guys. been experiencing a problem which is making me doubt my gear box is not ok.

when car is warm, and i stop at a traffic signal i put the gear on neutral.. no probs. when shifting to Drive.. engine stalls. looking at RPM, when puting on D or R, engine RPM drops very low to like 0.3 and then stalls.

what could i be possibly looking at?

Omega General Help / 3.0 Overheating!
« on: 23 August 2008, 14:07:04 »
Hey guys, wonder if someone can give an advise to the overheating problem im facing.

Problem started few months ago when the engine started overheating reaching +100C. On initial check, it was obvious that something was wrong with the fans (not working). Upon further checking, found out that the relay is not working so got it replaced and now fans are working. Also there was a minor water leak which was repaired.
After couple of weeks, overheating started again, took it to mechanic who started off with radiator flushing and servicing. It was still overheating, so he checked the thermostat and found that it has a leak and got it replaced.

After all this, its still overheating. When its on the highway, temp is around 92-93. In city or idle it reaches +100. Noticed that once is it reaches 95, temp would continue increasing to max temp scale (its like reaching temp unstabality or something). Also problem seems intermittent.

Could something be wrong with the pump, read somewhere that pump with plastic blades can be a problem sometimes.

Omega General Help / Launch X431
« on: 27 October 2007, 15:10:41 »
Anyone familiar with Launch X431 Diagnosis machine?

Dealer uses tech II, but all other local garages uses this Launch X431.

The thing is that when i took my car to dealer for starting problem they said that as per Tech II ECU had no faults. When i took it to local garage, with his launch X431, he pulled out two faults:
1. knock sensor
2. Fuel Pump Relay.

Thanks for the response Kevin.

yeah i would be surprised if injectors were blocked at all. If any was blocked it would probably give bad driveability all the time not just during starting and the 15 seconds after that. maybe its worth mentioning that everytime the local mechanic removed the injectors and put them back in, the problem would be resolved temporarily and the car would start and run perfectly.

Dealer was saying that usually pump winding resistance is low when cold, but when it start heating up the winding resistance would start building up. They say that might explain the hard start.

As for the lumpy 15 seconds after that, they say it might be due to Valve O-Rings and Gasket failure (there seems to be a wet like area on the top diver side of the engine). But wouldnt that cause the engine to be lumpy all the time rather than the first 15 seconds?

Just got the call from the dealer and they say that pump winding resistance is low, fuel injectors are blocked, and one valve is leaky, and the following need to be replaced:

Fuel Pump Assembly                      £302
Fuel Pump Clamp                 £3
Fuel Pump Plug Expansion                £37
Fuel Pump Seal (Not Available)          £23
Valve Cover Gasket                      £55
Valve Cover O Ring                      £3
Fuel Injectors (Not Available)          £631
Labour                                  £192

Total                                   £1247

I doubt all these are causing the hard starting. Can anyone advise.
Is there an alternative to all these expensive prices =/ ??

thanks to all for responses.

couldnt get the car checked as its holidays here.
just tried starting it. cranked it, it fired, but didnt start. second crank there was no sound of firing at all. and it seems that battery started to lose all its energy. Paper clip still doesnt indicate any 19 code.
tomorrow morning will try to jump start it. if it didnt then i guess its a tow to the dealer.

just paperclipped it, flashing 12 & 31.

upon cranking it, the auto gearbox check came up. im assuming that shouldnt be related to the problem since its the first time to light up.

thanks for the reply.

yeah fuel filter, changed 6 months ago..
battery now a year old.

could it be cam sensor prob? its a 3.0L 2001. however it never stalled while running.

i just dont know where to look.

ok now im starting to go nuts..
Car has been having a history of hard starting (over a year) with same symptoms and i dont seem to be able to find the problem.
Car cranks, fires, but doesnt start. When and if it starts (after alot cranking), it starts lumpy at low revs, with black smoke for few seconds, then it goes back to normal.

First time this problem happened, the mechanic said the injectors were bad, so he replaced them with clean ones, problem was resolved for some 5-6 months.

Then it came back again. Paper clipped it and it was flashing 19.
Took it to mechanic, where he changed crank sensor, spark plugs and rechecked the injectors (by taking them out checking them and putting them back in). Car starting came back to normal.

Now after 2 months, problem is appearing again. Paper clipped it, no fault codes. This time i noticed the trend that car starting is usually difficult during noon time where temp here reaches 45 deg C. However when car is cold it starts easier.

now im really starting to get despirate. any advise.

Omega General Help / Re: Few Questions
« on: 12 September 2007, 18:52:49 »
yeah i would expect the ecu not to fire, but im just wondering if the ecu would still inject fuel in the engine.

read somewhere that ecu usually fires when it reads the first crank sensor signal that follows the cam sensor signal. thats when the ecu knows that the engine is in TDC. so im thinking if the sensor gives a wrong signal, it might start the sequence of firing in the wrong time, hence starting lumpy. but is there some auto correction done by ecu after starting?

my question is based on an intermittent problem that ive been facing.
some 6 months ago, car had some hard starting problem, both when cold and hot. it was intermittent, sometimes the car would start normal, and sometime i would need to crank it some 6-7 times for it to start, and once it does it starts lumpy with plenty of black smoke for around 15 seconds, then the engine slowly goes back to its normal tone. problem was only starting.
Took the car to mechanic, he advised that injectors are leaking, and when car is off for some time, the engine would get flooded and choke at starting. So he replaced the set of injectors with used ones. After that the car never had a single starting problem until 5 months later (last week), thats when the same problem started to appear again. Intermittent. When cranking, it cranks with some random firing in the first couple of seconds, then it starts to fire continous, then when i release the starter, it dies (unless i give it gas, and thats when it starts lumpy with black smoke for 10-15 seconds then clears).

few days back, car had this problem, yesterday and today it started as if nothing is wrong with it. already got a new crank sensor and old injectors are under cleaning and testing. tomorrow will be replaced.

Omega General Help / Few Questions
« on: 12 September 2007, 16:54:03 »
hey guys,

a few questions came to my mind while coming back from work..

when starting the engine, if the crank sensor isnt working, i would assume that the engine wont fire.. but would the ECU still give signal to injectors to inject fuel?
in this case would continous cranking with no firing flood the engine?

Incase of a faulty crank sensor, if the sensor gives a signal in the wrong time, and the firing happens in the wrong time, would the engine start (maybe lumpy)? and would the ecu recorrect the timing automatically?

any thoughts?

Omega General Help / Re: cam belt replacement
« on: 30 May 2007, 17:20:07 »
thanks for the input guys.. im actually in the United Arab Emirates if anyone heard of it =P

i checked with the dealership and he wants (after currency conversion) approximately 200 GBP.. searched in the local market for the particular kit (09201887) and got a hold of one for about 120 GBP. so i just baught it..
Kit included belt, tensioner, pulley, 4 bolts and a small round metallic peice. Cuz of the 80 GBP difference im doubting it might be missing something, unless the dealer is just soo much more expensive.

By the way.. for the Omegas here in UAE many people tend to use parts from a brand called DEPLHI.. any ideas of how reliable these are?

Got the Pump and will be doing it along with the cam belt.
