Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Facelift Double Din Facia

Hi,
There is a double din fascia available for an omega from www.caraudiodirect.com

Beware though, To put in a double din unit you have to modify the fascia and may need to spray it depending on the colour of your dash.

I have just fitted a Kenwod DDX 7029 with blutooth kit and Ipod lead to my 2002 2.6 CDX and it fits but only just.
Firstly yu have to take the entire centre cosole to bits - this is easy enough.
Then you have to drill the sides of the plastic rear dash casing so you can screw the head unit direct to it as the mounting cage wil not fit.
The you have to very carefully strap all the wires out of the way at the back of the head unit as there is very limited spcae at the rear of the centre console.

With a little DIY and perseverace it does fit and you cannot beat the Kenwood DDX 7029, the sound is awesome, the bluetooth kit is second to none and it has the fastest Ipod controls of any head unit on the market.

I got the whole lot delivered dor £630, including Omega wiring loom and fascia.
From www.audiocar.co.uk
Ask for Mike appleton if you contact them he will sort the price out and if you need tech advice Ian the MD is more than happy to give you help over the phone, a great company.

If anyone has any questions or wants to know how I fitted mine, drop me an email on n6oop@hotmail.co.uk

Obvious first question, where did you put the microphone from the bluetooth and the ipod? Cheers!

Very useful info Madpup, I'm hoping to do exactly the same with a DDX 6029 (same, but previous year i think, bit cheaper!!)

I may well email you when I get round to it, pick your brain for tips!

space is quite tight behind the stereo, so not room for too many adapters
Oh, I know lol - I put a Sony head unit, iPod adapter and a sub+amp in my wife's Omega (1995) - the phono leads etc push the head unit out a little bit!!

As far as I can tell, the majority of the leads on the head unit I'm looking at (Kenwood DDX 6029) have trailing leads, so I should be able to get them out the way (hopefully)!

Thanks, I think I found that one a few days ago. My main motivation to go double din is the display size. I only really listen to my iPod in the car, and I've played around with several ways to plumb them in. I currently use a Sony CDX-M630, which allows the display (all the buttons are hidden) to be blacked out. I then have the iPod plugged into the rear auxilary input, and mounted to the right of the steering wheel in my Honda. I'd prefer to control it with the head unit, but 4000+ songs is too much to control with a single din unit i've found. I think a double din unit will give that bit more space to display stuff!! Plus, they have so many bells and whistles I can play with it for days!!

I looked on ebay, they do reversing cameras for like £5  :) which would be pretty cool lol!

Ok, this adapter (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1680.html), to fit a single din unit into the double din space, says it is for Vauxhall Corsa, Agila, Omega 05/2000>.

This one (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/6857.html) says it is for # Vauxhall Agila >04
# Vauxhall Corsa 00-06

Any idea if it will also fit the Omega (facelift)?

These are almost the thing (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product_list/c_path/48_209_513/spd/vauxhall.html) (down the bottom of the page)

They have them for every Vauxhall except the Omega!! Grrrr

Hi all,

Hopefully getting a 2001 CDX soon, with a standard CCR2006. I'm thinking about putting the following in, for better sound, more toys etc, and to allow me to use my ipod:

Head Unit (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4893/referer/rc_froogle.html)

Not sure where to get a double din adapter yet.

Bluetooth adapter (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/kcabt100.asp)

Steering wheel controls adapter (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/install/show_model.asp?id=285) - not sure which one yet?

iPod adapter (http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/kcaip500.asp)

I have an amp already, which I'm either going to drive a 12" sub in the boot, or fit 16.5cm speakers like these (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dynamics-sd61-p-5520.html) driven from the sub output on the head unit. These would be fitted into the speaker mounts in the parcel shelf, as per Bose. Does the Bose cut through the parcel shelf cover? I was figuring that if they are just for bass, they could remain hidden below the cover?

Also going to replace the speakers in the front doors, using Corsa B 165mm slanted adapters? Any recommendations on speakers for the front doors?

How does this sound?

Mike

Double din adapters available on same site, just keep scrolling down on your original page.  :y

They have the adapters to fit a single din unit into the double din space, but not to fit a double din unit into the space! Thanks though  :)

Omega General Help / Re: Help!! Snapped small breather hose jet!
« on: 18 January 2008, 18:40:30 »
Thanks Grumpy, you've been very helpful! I'll have a think about it. I'm selling the car in the next couple of weeks, and I don't expect to get more than £250 for it, so I need to have a think about how much effort/money I want to spend on it. I suspect I may have overtightened it, as I screwed it in initially, but it was leaking water, so tightened it up a bit further, and BANG, no more jet!!

There's nothing left sticking out the hole, it's sheared internally  :(

Also, its MOT runs out in February, and I'm not sure if it will need any work to pass.

The annoying thing is, our main car is finishing on ebay on Sunday, and we were planning to use the Omega for a few days til we get the money and buy a new car (facelift Omega hopefully!).

I'm still tempted just to epoxy the jet back in. I know it is a bit of a bodge job, but it should run ok.

Any idea how much work it would be removing the snapped off bit? There's obviously not enough clearance down there to get tools in! I guess I need to take the bit below the throttle body (shows how technical i am lol) off? Is this easy?

Are they essential? I was thinking of epoxing the jet back in, then simply taking the banjo joint out and joining the two hoses together.

Thanks for your help!

It was already pretty tight, but gotta be worth a try!

What are the water hoses that run through the joint for?

Can anyone help? I've just finished cleaning out the small breather hose and jet on my wife's 1995 2.0 CD, and the jet has sheared off, leaving part of the threaded bit stuck in the engine?

Is this fixable? Any ideas on how, how much, or if it's even worth it?

Another update -

Had exhaust replaced - both rear and mid sections were blowing. However, not made much difference to the running.

It's still running pretty rough, and it seems to be quite rattly at idle - once the revs get up it runs better, but still not perfect. I've tried some Holts Piston Seal after a few people suggested it could be the piston rings wearing, but thats not made any difference  :(

It stalls quite easily too, especially when reversing with the wheel turning (extra load from the power steering?)

I changed the plugs when I put the piston seal in, just in case that would help, but no difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks!  :)
