Omega General Help / Massive oil consumption from 2.5 V6
« on: 29 September 2009, 09:39:01 »
Hi Guys,
My lovely old 2.5 V6 has started using oil like there is no tomorrow! It started quite slowly, where it would smoke on warm up (not on cold start), but that is getting longer and longer now. Last Tuesday I smoked out the M4 between junctions, then it stopped.
Now it still doesn't smoke at startup, but during the warm up when I pull away it obliterates the car behind me, it then calms down when warm to be OK. All this said it is still going through max-min in less than 20 miles. It is also leaking oil as the driveway has drops all over it, and the block is getting messier. The smoke is grey/white, I wouldn't have said it was blue.
There is no water in the oil or vice versa, but it loves drinking water too, but only sometimes, I can go for weeks without topping up the coolant, then it'll be 5 times in a 60 mile journey - it's bonkers.
A friend said it was valve stem seals, which I think too, but THAT much oil...
I'm toying with just buying a new lump, or giving it the 'spares/repairs' treatment on ebay.
