Omega General Help / Re: TD Overheating
« on: 22 October 2006, 20:36:43 »
As far as I'm aware the viscous fan is the same, you can check the fan by removing the plastic trim panel above the radiator and try stoping the fan!!!!!!!!!!!! this isn't as bad as it sounds providing you do it sensibly, make sure you are wearing a welding gauntlet or similar type of gardening glove, if you get no resistance from the fan it needs replacing but I still think your going to end up shelling out for a new radiator. I'm sure there will be some one who lives close to you who has a trade club card you can use to lighten the cost.

The radiator is your problem.....

I had all the same symptoms, I flushed the system out then changed the water pump & thermostat each time flushing the system and no change in the end I bite the bullet and shelled out £175 for a radiator and it runs sweet as a nut now.

Sorry for the expence but I hope this helps.

Omega General Help / Re: Omega 'Tractor' hot start problem
« on: 14 November 2006, 01:35:45 »
The starting problem... does this happen all of the time or only when the fuel tank is low? the reason I ask is my 2.5TD doesn't like starting when warm if there's less than about 20-25 litres of diesel in the tank, there is quite a bit about it on VON but to be honest there is no definitive answer to the actual reason, just keep your tank topped up  [smiley=undecided.gif]

Where in Bristol are you  Captain? I've got a few various dash switches (the rubber coated ones) that the front has scratched off, your welcome to the bulbs from them to save messing around with the soldering iron.

Omega General Help / Re: Alloy wheel stuck!! Help?

When I've had this problem I found loosening the nuts on the wheel, and with the car on an axle stand to allow rotation of the a series of blows with a rubber mallet to the back face of the rim of the wheel has done the trick.  Rotate the wheel so you gave hit the rim at various points around its circumference, and give it a good clean before you put it back on.

I've always found this to be the safest way, if you only have a metal faced hammer as opposed to a dead blow hammer then hold a block of wood on the back side of the wheel first, then belt the S**T out of it keep rotating and it should just pop off  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Have I got a depressed airbag?

Does my passenger airbag look depressed to any of you?  I'm thinking that someone has rested something heavy on it in the past (probably large pieces of timber) and it has bent the mountings.
My thinking is that i disconnect the battery, remove the glove box then remove the airbag and straighten up the bracketry.

I had a similar problem with mine when I installed the Elite interior (I fitted a complete mini facelift interior including all four airbags into a pre mini facelift)
I don't think its the air vent you have a problem with, I think it's the passenger airbag trim panel.
When you remove-refit the passenger airbag or even the glove box you have to first remove the side air vent to access some screws and a long allen bolt which holds the airbag trim panel at the top.
A way around this is you can just bend the trim upwards once you've removed the three allen screws holding the bottom of the trim panel just inside the glove box, BUT by doing this it bends the mounting hinge and the face of the trim panel has a high spot in the centre which makes both ends lower giving the appearance that the air vent is too high....

To rectify this you need to remove the trim panel in the correct way, remove air vent, long allen bolt and the three allen screws, once the panel is off you can carefully (note the carefully bit as you can easily bend the hinge to far) straighten it and the refit making sure you adjust it before you tighten every thing.

I know this sounds a bit long winded but I think it's well worth doing.

Cheers Rob.

Omega General Help / Re: Xenon bulbs/ LCD Dasboard - Advice Please.

If on the back of the packaging it states for off road use only, will the same bulbs fail a MOT ?

I have emailed Ring automotive will keep you updated.

I would have thought that providing the light emitted is White with a Blue tint then it should be fine,

The "For off road use only" is mainly aimed at the Saxo's & Corsa pilots out there.

Omega General Help / Oil....... but what type?
« on: 26 September 2006, 09:32:06 »
Hi guys, I'm sure it's probably been asked a million times but with my computer skills I just can't find the answer  :-[ can anyone tell me what type of oil I should use in my 2.5TD.
Also how much oil, I'm sure it's going to be more than a 5 litre tub but just how much more I'm not sure.
One last thing... is there any specific type of flush I should use?
Thanks Rob.

I remember speaking to you about an over heating problem I had on my 2.5TD, you diagnosed a blocked radiator, I changed it and it's run as sweet as a nut ever since  :y
