I'll check the drop links, only replaced them last year for the MOT but they were cheap ones ... both wishbones have been replaced within the last couple of years and I replace the front bushes with poly ones ... so I'm hoping its not them

this may have been answered elsewhere but I have looked and couldn't find an answer ...
recently I've started getting a clonk over bumps on the drivers side front suspension. the steering's a bit wayward too. the usual suspect is a track rod end as when I jack up the car and try rocking it between 12 and 6 o clock positions there's nothing, but rocking between 3 and 9 gives the noise ...
I got a new track rod end and disconnected the old one from the hub ... the old one. which isn't that old. is still good with no play at all in it. its still good and stiff, if fact I replaced all four track rod ends just last year .. when I tried rocking the wheel with the track rod disconnected I still seem to be getting the noise.
its difficult to pin the exact source of the noise on my own. is it possible it might be the top strut mount ?

thanks for your reply. I'll recheck the connection to the maf sensor. although the engine does run not too badly apart from the slightly lumpy idle. re-cam sensor. I replaced that quite recently so I would like to think ( hopefully ) that that's not a problem. especially as the sensor for the 2.2 cost me nearly £60, far more than for the 2 litre which unfortunately doesn't fit. different plug.

Omega General Help / slight rough running

Hi all, hope someone can help. just changed the head gasket on my 2.2 auto cd. changed all the valve stem oil seals too, rebuilt and car now running. got 4 error codes though some of which might have been there previously. the engine overall is running well. pretty smoky now over certain revs but it still ( just ) manages to get through the emissions check come mot time
the tickover is a wee bit lumpy too, the codes I've got are as follows.
p0100
p0170
p1781
p1700
any pointers on how to fix whatever's causing these errors ?, at least one of them is bringing on the engine management light. tried clearing the codes but the light comes back on a few seconds later

Hi. I've had my 2.2 cd auto for nearly 6 years. overall very reliable although its been going through a phase the last couple of years with lots of things going wrong one after the other ... anyway, the head gasket went recently so I'm half way through changing it. decided to do the water pump while I was at it. easy to remove, just those 3 bolts. however there doesn't seem to be any particular way to align it. most things like this you can only fit one way, but on this engine its possible to rotate it 360 degrees. although obviously the pulley ends up further away from the timing belt tensioner. is there a particular position the pump should be fitted in ?

on this subject has anyone tried these "mil eliminators" that are availaible for not a lot off ebay ?, not specific to an Omega but seems to be a universal thing. basically seems to trick ECU into thinking all is well

just to add my tuppence worth, I had a similar problem with my 2.2, i would definately say it sounded like noisy tappets. but it did turn out to be a blow at the exhaust manifold. , once I fitted a new gasket the sound dissapeared. if you try this though please be careful as the front two manifold studs tend to shear...

i got a polybush kit for mine last year, comes with the antiroll bar bushes and two front bushes for the bottom arms too. the bottom arm bushes are more of a pain cos i had to burn out the old ones first. but yes the anti roll bar ones can be done without dropping the cradle, slightly fiddly but yes it can be done. wether its worth it I dont know yet, only time will tell

a wee update. after reading some more decided to try blanking off the EGR valve with a temporary piece of hany metal. success !! car now running nicely again ( for now ) ordered a proper blanking plate for a wopping £4 to make it more permanent

I've had the codes first suggesting a misfire on cylinder 4. tried new plugs since I had a set anyway and now got a code saying misfire on cylinder 2. tried putting old plugs back in but no difference.

I know theres been threads before about this but none really had the answer I was looking for ...
my poor Omega has gone from being a very reliable car which I've had for just over four years to all of a sudden having continous problems one after the other
I've posted on here already about my timing belt having gone which I've fixed. then the hbv went which I've replaced. and at about the same time its started running roughly, more pronounced at idle. looking up various possibilties suggested air leaks around the inlet manifold etc. I've checked that as best I can and retightened all the bolts. another possibility is the coil pack but as I'm not getting any specific codes from the ECU i dont want to have to replace it then find I still have the problem which is what quite a lot of people on here have had happen to them.
where exactly is the idle control valve on the 2.2 ? and would it affect running at higher revs too ?

just to add my tuppence in
my girfriends now on her second mk1 mx5. the 1st one was thoughfully set on fire by a local garage we asked to weld the sill for the MOT
as mentioned before structurally check the sills, check the sills ..... oh and while you're there check the sills
mecanically their pretty good, top end can be a wee bit rattly at start up but so long as that goes away quickly its ok ... another famous weak point is that they overheat. on both my girlfriends changing the rad fixed the problem, you can get new ones off ebay for less than £50 so not too dear ...
must admit I've driven both of them and like them a lot. I'd have one and I'm definately not a hairdresser

Rob, when you say to move the no1 sensor from pre to post cat, might sound obvious but is there somewhere for it to screw in ?
