Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Removing Power Sounder
« on: 24 July 2008, 10:24:52 »
Suffering problems with alarm going off willy nilly and tried the usual bonnet catch tweak. It looks like its the old power sounder battery problem. From a previous post it would appear that the alarm system will still work without the power sounder in place but at the expense of battery removal protection, not bothered about that!

Question is , is there any special sequence of events in removing the sounder. Do you simply disarm the alarm via keyfob, take off scuttle and unplug/unbolt or is there anything else that needs doing.

Any advice re removal of this would be appreciated, take on board that the unit may activate and a set of ear plugs would be useful!!

thanks in advance

Hi there, can anyone provide some assistance. The alarm on the vehicle keeps going of at irregular intervals have checked the bonett switch and that seems to be ok and from what I am reading it would appear that it could be the Power Sounder batteries that are probably giving up the ghost. The big problem is that I am due to go away tomorrow and there is simply not enough time to get hold of a replacement. Can the Power Sounder simply be disconnected and tha car still used, not bothered in intrim about having  the alarm working simply want to stop the alarm sounding for no reason while away. Assuming this can be done is there any special proceedure or can it simply be unplugged. Any advice appreciated thanks

Thanks to this forum found the problem with my alarm sounding willy nilly and again with help from forum member received instructions on how to correctly remove.
Well having removed the unit, cut it in half to have a peek inside to see how bad it was. Therein came the surprise, the batteries are totally different to what I was expecting to find, instead of the green type there are two large button type cells marked Z3A 120 and indeed they had leaked, but not over the circuit board. Have looked through forum but not seen this type before hope it may be useful to someone to know different types are out there, check before you order.
