Omega General Help / Re: Omega estate as track day car
« on: 23 December 2016, 13:11:11 »
I have a 3.2 v6 Omega estate, but haven't used it for a while now.  I've been thinking about what to do and suddenly thought it would make a perfect track day car.  Questions are
1. would it be any good or would it handle terribly?  Its been a family car so I've never pushed its road holding boundaries.
2. if you reckon it could be fun, what would I need to do to it?  Upgrade the brakes?  Remove excess weight.  Flush the coolant system?

I can't imagine its going to be a natural on the track - they are big heavy comfortable mile munching barges!

You're no fun ;-)   fair point though.  I remember in my younger years some of the most exciting drives were in a Ford Cortina mark two, thought the Omega might be similar in that its not a "racing" car so would be a challenge.

Omega General Help / Help sourcing some lowered springs
« on: 21 September 2013, 11:20:02 »
I bought a set of lowered Bilstein springs and shocks for my 3.2 estate in Dec 2009 from a company called (I think) Autospares Ltd.  The two rear springs need replacing now.  I can't see them on eBay or Google.  Can anyone supply me contact details or an alternative supplier?

Omega General Help / Re: Which is best...3.0 or 3.2?...
« on: 09 June 2012, 13:38:45 »
Economy wise I felt the 3.2 was better around town with 19-20mpg compared to the 3.0 at 17-18mpg.  I really like the more angular wheels of 3.2.

Omega General Help / Re: Omega 3.2 Engine Management Light
« on: 09 June 2012, 13:35:45 »
My garage quoted an hour's labour to move the sensors so not too bad.  Funnily enough after my eml light being on constantly for about four years, I put on a new exhaust recently and the light has gone out.  I'm expecting it to come back on again after a number of starts, but that was a month ago and the light is still off.  I bought some bosses and plugs off Ebay as I guess it will come on again at some point and I'll need to get the sensors moved.

Yep, did the pedal test and I have codes 0420 and 0430.  I assume the lambda boss and plugs are the standard size and will source on Ebay. Thanks.

Omega General Help / Emission light on
« on: 15 May 2012, 14:21:06 »
Hi, my emission light has been on for quite a while now on my 3.2v6 and my local garage has quoted me about an hour to move the lamda sensors as per (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90613.0).  I just want to check that doing this will make the warning light go out?  Will it make the car's mpg any better?

Omega General Help / Rear head restraint won't stay up
« on: 10 May 2012, 15:37:19 »
In my estate my offside head restraint won't stay up and the spring forces it to a 90 degree angle.  Its been like this since I owned the car (8 years!), but I suddenly wondered if any of you geniuses knew how to fix it.
So far we have used a piece of string from the dog guard to hold it up.

Omega General Help / Re: Wishbone replacement
« on: 08 May 2012, 16:02:58 »
I did it myself and it wasn't too bad and I'm a bit of an amateur.  Don't forget to put the wheel back on and take the jack away (i.e. so weight of car is on wheel) before tightening the bolst to the correct torque setting.  I tightened them with the wheel off the ground and wishbones only lasted six months...

Omega General Help / Exhaust part numbers
« on: 30 April 2012, 15:41:29 »
Hi,

Please can someone help me with part numbers for 3.2 v6 2001 plate?  From another thread I thought they were :-

Estate LH centre box 93181160
Estate RH centre box 93181163
Rear silencer    93192233

But my father-in-law can't find them at the motor factors that he works for.  Thanks.

most likely condensation / blocked breathers possibly / rubbish oil

As long as there is no mayo on the dipstick, that is definitely NOT head gasket symptoms :y

....yep. And don't put that mayo on ya sarnies!  :y

I prefer ketchup  :).  Phew thats a relief its not the gasket.  Meant to say its a 3.2 v6 so thought it was going to cost me a fortune.  How should I check the breathers? Should I clean the filler pipe regularly to stop any build up?

Omega General Help / Is my gasket blown???

Message flashed that the car's engine oil was low so opened the cap and saw this!  Dipstick is clean and water in expansion tank is too.  I had the water cooler replaced around three years ago.  Does this mean one of the gaskets has gone?  If so how much is the likely cost? Thanks in advance for any replies.
