Omega General Help / ELECTRIC SEAT - MOTOR STUCK?
« on: 09 April 2009, 16:08:59 »
For some strange reason, the passenger (electric) seat on my 51 plate Omega CDX 2.6 Auto is stuck at full height position?

When the height adjust switch is pressed (down) all you hear is a click, and no movement of the seat what so ever?

As I have not driven my car sitting from the passenger side before, I have no idea how long it has been like this? I only noticed it the other day when I was doing a bit of valeting sitting on the passenger front seat and as it was set too high for my relaxed lounge driving style, I went to lower it and nothing happened.

Any ideas as what could be wrong? I have looked under the seat at the  threaded long bar that connects to the motor whilst pressing the switch. When the switch is pressed, you can see about a mm or two movement of the threaded bolt, and then you hear a single click from the motor area. That's it!

If anyone can help I would be grateful!!

Kent.

Omega General Help / Re: Auto gearbox selector lights come on.

Perhaps I should have elaborated a bit more.

I was indeed refering to junctions situated at the bottom of a hill etc.
Obviously on a flat I agree that taking your foot off the gas and slowing down with decreased momentum is the normal approach, as this too is my normal way of driving.

I don't own a caravan, horse box or any other towing device! Therefore, I am not familiar in using gears 1,2, or 3 for these purposes other than for using them when heading down a decent towards a junction.

I think that covers it? Thanks for the info.

As always, I like to save money where I can. I find that to reduce speed (if coming to a junction) I can do either of the following:-

1, slam on the brakes - and wear out the pads / disks.

or

2, Down shift from 'Drive' to 3rd, then 2nd when down to about 30 MPH or lower.

I believe in making the engine help to assist in stopping by using the gear box to be a little more cost effective thus, spreading out the cost of pads / disks to last as long as practicably possible?

After all, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd gears on an auto are used for what else???

Could you tell me where to locate the switch?

In addition, is it simply a case of cleaning it up, or do you think replacing it is best? If so, how much do you think it could cost £££?

Many thanks,

Kent.

Omega General Help / Auto gearbox selector lights come on.

I have a 51 plate omega 2.6 v6 CDX auto.
Last night all the gear slector lights came on when I down shifted from 'D' down to 3, 2 to slow down approaching a junction.
The lights went off after a while and the car drove home fine.

Gearbox sounds fine, engine too?

The next morning I started the car, all the gear selector lights came on, the 'TC' light remained on and could not be turned off manually, and the car crawled when I selected 'D'. I stopped the car, turned off then on again and selected 'D'. This time only the light for 'D' was on (as I had selected 'D') and the car pulled away just fine?

I left the car in 'D' the entire 8 mile journey to work with no problems at all. However, when I got back in the car after work and started up again all selector light came on again. I had to turn off the car again and restart until only the light for 'D' was on when selected.

Again, the car drove home without any problems?

Please can anyone give me some assistance. I have read some where here that it could be as simple as a 'switch' that might need cleaning, or perhaps replaced?

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,

Kent.

Omega General Help / RPM needle stuck at 7,000 RPM???
« on: 29 March 2008, 01:18:24 »
Since my previous post about this issue, I am adding the following info in case someone knows what the hell is going on?

The RPM needles is presently stuck at 7,000 RPM.
Not because that's where it got to through really hard driving, it just happened.

As it stands, with the ignition off, the needle stays at 7,000 RPM. When the ignition is on, the needle stays where it is and only twitches slightly between 6,500 - 7,000 RPM as the auto box changes gear and will only move a few millimetres as the box changes up through the gears but as I said before the needle will not fall below 6,500 RPM.

On a previous post reply, I was advised that it could be a failed dash, or the stepper motor for this dial. However, I am still unsure what course of action I should take (most cost effective route) in order to confirm diagnosis, or even if there is something relatively simple that I could do myself to rectify this issue.

The last thing I want to do (as most of us) is to be forced to taking the car to the main dealer and being ripped off a few hundred quid for nothing else than to be told it does'nt work!

I have had this before, mainly by vauxhall dealers, you take the car in, they charge you an instant £50.00 + VAT before they have even looked at your car! So, as you can imagine, this is the last thing I want to do.

If anyone has come across this kind of fault, or has any possible solutions that either myself, or a local independant garage can work their magic, I would be really grateful for your help!!

Kind regards,

Money Spinner.

Omega General Help / Rev counter needles stuck at 7,000 rpm?
« on: 24 March 2008, 22:16:40 »
Here's one I have not come across before?

I have a 2.6 CDX V6 Omega, on a 51 plate. She is in tip top order apart from the needle on the rev counter is stuck at 7,000 rpm. This was not due to the car being thrashed to this reading, in case you were thinking - oooh, we have a thrash head here. The complete oppostie in fact.
Anyway, I phoned Vauxhall technical to see what they thought? The man in technical, seemed to know a bit (as he should) and said that he had come across this happening to another model vauxhall once before and reccomended I try disconnecting the car battery, and see if that sorts it as the needle should drop back to rest as the power would have been disconnected.

I followed this advice and disconnected the earth strap of the - terminal, and of course the car alarm went off!
Whilst the alarm was upsetting everyone in the area, I popped my head in the car to see that the needle was still there sitting at 7,000 rpm! So, I reconnected the earth strap on the battery and still no joy!

Does anyone know what else it could be, or has anyone had the same thing happen and know what to do to rectify this problem?

Any help, or suggestions very much appreciated!

best regards,

Money Spinner.

Hi all,

I have just registered myself here on this forum as I have recently parted with a very trusty old friend - Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 SRI 140.
I have just picked up my new friend, the new shape Omega 2.6 V6 CDX Auto. As I am an avid fan of vauxhall's, I just had to register ASAP as I enjoy sharing experiences good & bad with anyone who needs a little help, and also to help me out if I should need a bit of advice or technical support sometimes?

I look forward to open forums with you all shortly!!

Kind regards,

money spinner.
