Can you do that without screwing up how it runs? I know on some other cars if you remove the EGR altogether it not only has implications for emissions, but the ECU can throw a strop and bugger up how the car runs.

Speedy reply! Cheers!

Don't think it's a leak - had all the hoses off to clean them up, checked them all over, and made sure they were refitted properly. How do I check EGR valve?

Omega General Help / Stalling - 2.0 auto

Afternoon all,

Got a bit of a problem with my GLS - ever since I've bought it the idling has been rough. Not that long ago I took all the intake hoses off and cleaned them up, fitted an oil separator (which incidentally seems to have pretty much entirely solved the issue I had with oil splattering all over the tailgate window) and cleaned out the ICV. Everything was much improved, although not perfect, for a few weeks, but now not only is the idling rough, but the engine is cutting out on overrun. Quite embarrassing being able to stall an automatic with your mates in the car.....

Has the ICV finally had it or should I be looking elsewhere? Checked for vacuum leaks and can't find any.

Just got a 97 2.5 V6.First one i have had.
New here, the cover on my lights look very dull think they are platicts, could i change them for something better ??
Thanks

Dave :question

First off, try giving them a clean on the outside with glass polish (the cream, not windowlene or similar)

If that doesn't work, you could always take them off and rinse out the inside with isopropyl alcohol - about £5 for 500ml from your local chemist and won't leave watermarks on the reflector.

If that still doesn't work, buy newer ones from a scrappy or brand new ones from a stealer. Not likely to be a cheap option with the last one though...

Has anybody tried the Xenon kits that replace the halogen bulbs? Just wondering if they could be an alternative?

That's what's being discussed here  :-?

cheers mark that was the answer i wanted but missed out on them !!  :'(

There are ebay seller selling them for £75 quid now anyway - you'd need two H1 sets if you plan to have xenon dips and main beams.

As for headlamp washers - there is no written law on retro-fitting but on new cars they are required. Having had or had use of several cars with them, the washers frankly do very little and aren't worth the hassle - if you wash your car fairly regularly then it'll do a much better job of keeping your headlamps clean than a diddy pressure jet ever could!

(ps you could always just fit Osram Silverstars at c. £20 for 4, have much better lights, with v. little hassle, and be perfectly legal... it's what I did  ;) )

Checked rear diff and cv boots etc for leaks???

No, but how would this explain the engine going through 3 litres of oil in 1,000 miles?

Exhaust pipe doesn't seem to be oily... job for the weekend is to strip and clean all breather pipes etc and the ICV (occasional lumpy idle / hunting revs too) and see if that has any impact...

I haven't checked the breathers, that's got to be first on the list.

I would have thought I'd see smoke too if the engine's seriously poorly but it doesn't appear to be smoking at all, very odd.

Don't have the tools myself but know a man who does... what's the best bet in the mean time, keep topping it up with 20w50 to minimise the loss?

Doesn't seem to be, and would that explain why I have oil on the back window?

66k, according to the clock. But it didn't come with much in the way of a service history so I don't know how genuine it is. Condition of the car seems to suggest it's probably genuine though.

Omega General Help / Oily rear end...

Hello all,

Think I may have a slight problem with my omega... only had it a few weeks but have noticed the rear window getting very slimy and the wiper not clearing it. At first I put it down to the roads being greasy after a fairly long dry spell, but on closer inspection, turns out the back of the car is getting covered in oil. And it seems to have gone through at least 3 litres of it in the last 1,000 miles!!! Seems to drive fine though, and doesn't appear down on power and is still returning reasonable economy - well, seems reasonable to me (bearing in mind my other car is a V8  ;D ), about mid 20s on a 2 litre auto estate sound about right for mixed (brisk) town and motorway driving?

Anyway, I only bought the car as a workhorse, and I don't intend to spend a fortune on it putting it right. I'm just wondering if there is anything obvious I should be looking for that might explain this problem, or whether the engine needs to come apart to sort it?

Cheers

I would assume mine's a pre facelift (it's P reg) and it has H1's on main and dips
