Omega General Help / Re: Where do omega`s rust
« on: 04 October 2008, 15:05:40 »
Mine was starting to rust under the rear arches & drivers side doors. I sanded it off, then chucked some kurust & hammerite on which seems to be doing the job... the silver hammerite seems to be a better colour match than any of the Halfords touch up sticks I've tried on my cars!

Read through every car forum and you'll end up on a pushbike!

Love my miggy!

Easily get a very nice elite for 2.5k!

Don't forget if you go Y and newer, you'll have to fork out 400 quid a year road tax soon. You can get facelifts on W & X plates. Going a bit older might be sensible (I have an N-reg and its been as good as gold so I'd say don't worry about it!)

Look for a genuine, well looked after car- add wheels & stuff later!

Cheers fella, the rust is underneath the arch so isn't visible unless you get under the car though. Just want to stop it getting any worse really. Does Hammerite actually do what it says on the tin?

I can't attempt doing it properly 'cause I know for a fact I would end up cocking up the whole car!  ;D

Omega General Help / Rust on wheelarches?
« on: 17 August 2008, 18:06:08 »
Hi, my '96 miggy has surface rust starting on the lips of the rear arches. Its not visible unless you kneel down and hasn't gone through or anything.

What would be the best way to prevent them going bad- sand & chuck some hammerite on?

Thanks!

Omega General Help / Clonk from drivers front side?
« on: 12 June 2008, 18:26:11 »
Hi, my front drivers side (suspension area) makes a clonk when going over potholes/bumps and sometimes when turning. Think it started after going over a speed bump. Its easily audible but not majorly loud- can't think how better to describe it!

Nothing visibly out of place when I looked underneath.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds on the money- any ideas if it could be fixed without a trip to an upholsterers?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Seat digging in
« on: 30 May 2008, 14:28:53 »
Hi, my drivers seat is digging into my lower back in a sort of horizontal line. Unfortunately the knob on the side of the seat does nothing- just clicks after a few turns. Anyone else had this problem?

Its a '96 CD with the grey cloth seats

Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Checking my purchase!

Doh, yep meant the serpentine belt! Just read that light cracking is normal on these belts unless the cracks go onto the flat side so can forget about that for a bit (?).

Will get the cambelt done this week... I've got a mate who's a mechanic so hopefully he can do that for me.

Thanks again.

Well, I had a close look at the belt and there are tiny cracks all over it! Took her for a long drive yesterday as well.

Not going to drive it until its done now. Will give it a full service as well. I'm guessing it would be wise to get the gearbox oil changed as well as its an auto?

Seriously- thanks for taking the time to advise me, much appreciated!

Hi, the cambelt was changed at a main dealer in April 2004 @ 80,000 miles (93k now)... would changing it now be OTT?

Never seen a car with this much history, absolutely reams of the stuff and all at the same dealer. Had the rocker cover gaskets, wishbones etc done last year as well. Still can't believe I got this car for 500 quid!

Got the Omega!

Drove 100+ miles back without missing a beat... love the car! Its like one of those american state cruiser-mobiles, almost felt like we were off to the nick! The interior is a bit old skool, especially after the '05 plate Mondeo we went up in, but I like that. Soo comfy.

Just a bit of rust on the drivers side door bottoms and the digital screen thingy to sort but for 500 quid I can't complain. Oh, and it had a full tank of petrol and new tyres as well!

Touch wood, well happy!

Wow, loads of info. Cheers!

The bills (£0000's worth apparently- a good or bad sign I don't know!?  ::) ) and SH are all main dealer from what he said- inc. the cambelt if I remember right. Its a £500 car at the end of the day so I won't be too fussy though!

I'll go over the car & change all the all the oils/filters etc when its back

Cheers again!
