Hi james
Thanks for the great offer mate, but we've had to make a decision this evening to get rid of the old girl, a question of economics really, going down to a smaller car for a bit, but thanks again.

Great site by the way, top marks for the help for heroes!

Omega General Help / Timing belt...

 :(
Hi all again, just a quick one, my 1999 20.i  had developed a bit of a 'rattle' the last few days, I remember checking the timing belt a month or two back and all seemed fine. Anyway, it gave up the ghost yesterday and cut out, now it just turns over without firing, and makes a sound like everything rattling top end.

My question is, somebody suggested to me once that some vauxhall engines have a 'run safe?' feature, which means that the top end etc can be re-alligned and it would in theory work again?  I've expected the worst and anything beyond that would be a bonus!

Would be greatful to hear from anyone who knows the answer to this!

As always, thanks in advance

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio/CD Player code
« on: 28 March 2010, 17:03:07 »
Got to change some illumination bulbs behind the heater controls, which I have to remove the radio to get access too.
One slight problem, I have lost the 4 digit code which I will need when I put the radio back in... :-[
Its a standard radio/CD player which came with the car, does anyone have any ideas or know of a way round this????   Thanks in advance

Ive got an clock bulb gone on my pre face lift, I saw the help topic on how to remove the whole panel concerned, firstly i noticed it looked like a face lift,  does that make any difference?, and secondly, I beilieve there is a securing screw on the right hand side which you have to prize out the headlamp switch unit to get to. Is this difficult? any help would be much appreciated as always, thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / metallic 'rattle' on pull off
« on: 28 March 2011, 21:39:39 »
have this annoying rattle on pull off, if i didnt know better, it sounds to me like a heat shield or something rattling. It only does this occasionally, did it again today, the rattle, which can only be described as a metallic rattle, starts off on pull off, it dissapears after the revs pick up, maybe 1000, then returns again with low revs, dissapears when its warmed up. Any ideas guys?

Omega General Help / Re: Brake caliper question
« on: 31 March 2010, 20:27:57 »
Just did mine literally ten minutes ago... great fun putting my wheel back on in the dark...   I used a piece of 5" X 1" Hardwood placed over the piston, and levered against that, worked a treat for me.

Omega General Help / Brake dilemma...
« on: 31 March 2010, 21:53:07 »
Hi all, I put a post on here a while back RE Brake imbalance, it was showing 36% difference on my MOT results, front. I freed the pistons off in the calipers, they seem to be working ok, bought some 2nd hand brake discs, (which turned out to be knackered and caused the car to shudder violently when braking) so eventually ended up with new discs, just fitted them tonight, pistons seem to be working fine and it brakes nice and smooth and in a straight line, does this sound like the imbalance may be cured, as I have no other way of telling before its re-test tomorrow.
As always thanks in advance
