i'm guessing they have damaged wiring to lamda or sensor itself.  the trim is related.

other may disappear when lamda fixed

I shall be booking it in again tomorrow - I needed to know what fault code(s) were displayed before they have it back.....just in case they try to fob me off again. call me cup half full but......

Does it start first time (hot or cold)?

Hi, thanks for reading my blurb...yes almost always.....say 9 out of 10 times.

A bit of an update on the situation - having needed the car lately I wanted to get some idea of the fault codes causing the EM lighrt to stay on (before I take it back to the exhaust centre who caused the light to come on) I have now purchased an OBD2 reader that gives me the following five fault codes (yes, five)

130 = O2 sensor circuit malfunction (bank 1 sensor 1)
135 = O2 sensor hester circuit malfunction (bank 1 sensor 1)
170 = Fuel trim malfunction (bank 10
500 = Vehicle Speed sensor malfunction
1405 =  DPFE sensor upstream Hose off or plugged.

I understand that fault codes 130 and 135 will be directly related to the work they carried out (cat section of exhaust replaced and both O2 sensors had to be removed and placed in new exhaust) but I'm not sure how the others would be related unless wiring has been fouled during the exhaust adjustments. Any ideas wouyld be very welcome as I expect to have denials and a battle of words at the exhaust centrewhen I take my Meega back.

By the way, the car still has the EM light on - it has been on permanently since they changed the exhaust (never been on before in the 10 months I've owned the car) and it runs with a noticeable loss of power...when I press the accelerator very little happens unless you floor it and even then it's reluctant.

I have concerns that they may simply take out the EM warning lamp
Chin up mate, if it's a national chain they have a responsibility to make sure the work is carried out correctly. I know you can sometimes feel a bit of a twonk going back time and time again but keep going back until they have sorted it! If you've got concerns about their work, stand, wait and watch them do it right.

The car came out of the factory with four studs for a reason, it should leave their garage with four. Not many things are over-engineered these days! Your hard earned money, your car, don't let them bodge it. Often think it would be nice to have the facilities, time and expertise to do yourself but alas, is not always the case.

Call me optimistic but I don't think there's too many large garages that would take that much of a risk by completely screwing up the job after a customer has highlighted problems, with the increasing threat of bad press and compensation culture!?!

Rant over  ::)

.....for now  :)

Hi Davladd22, many thanks for the supportive comments. I have even considered having a tech 2 diagnostic done to tell the exhaust specialsts what is wrong but Vauxhall main dealer wants £70 to plug it in and tell me the fault code. My plan is to simply book the car back in for the stud and engine light to be sorted out. I'll keep you posted.

My Meega is feeling real poorly right now.....

Thank you all for your support and advice.
I shall be booking the car back in for remedial work, ie new bolt (they claim they will have to replace the mainfold!!!  but my sympathy level is low to non existant right now) and to sort out the engine management light that is now permamnently on resulting in my Meega running with greatly reduced power.

When I left hem last week they suggested that I drive the car for a week or two and see if it settles down (ie, the engine management light goes off again) but it seems clear this is not going to happen. I have done over 600 miles in the last week and the car sound terrible, especially when started from cold, has no power and frankly I just don't want to drive it whilst it is in this sorry state. I will tell the 'exhaust specialist' who did the job all about the lambda sensor codes, possible wires shorting etc and leave it for them to sort out. However, I have the feeling that they will do all they possibly can to 'cover their tracks' and I have concerns that they may simply take out the EM warning lamp....or am I being a pessimist here?

I'll post an update as things develop for the benefit of any other member who may have similar problems.

hmmm, why didn't they just change flexi bit, rather than whole lot?

I'm suspectin gthey have knackered a lamda sensor (one before, one after cat), but reading codes will tell for def....

Many thanks for the response. Why didn't they change the 'flexi' section? Mr Fitter said it can't be changed - has to be the whole section????? cost of £300

Thanks for the info re the fault codes - the exhaust centre have no code reading equipment so I suppose I'll have to take it to a Vauxhall dealership to find out , then take it back to the exhaust centre to prove my point.....I've sorta totally lost any confidence in their 'repair' process- the best bit is that they also broke an exhaust stud from the downpipe and are reluctant to repair or replace it saying that three bolts will do the job just as well. All in all it was a peach of a job...not!!

Cheers again

Omega General Help / 2.2 - replaced cat - EM light on - low power
« on: 01 August 2007, 19:55:37 »
Hands up...I'm guilty of not visiting for some time, mainly because my 2.2 facelift Meega has been fine and I've had no problems. I have now.

It's a Sept 200 (X Reg) 2.2 CD Auto (Silver)

After having the exhaust centre section (yes, the one with the CAT) replaced last week, I now have the engine management light permanently on and low power, almost feels like a blockage but it doesn't clear when I rev. The professional supply & fitting company (a National company) claim they have no idea why the light is on but have told me it should clear in a week or two????

Any ideas what the cause may be?

PS. The CAT section was replaced not because the CAT was duff but because there was a leak around the small flexible section near the joint with the second half of the system.

Many thanks for reading this and a bigger thanks if you have any possible suggestions re the cause.

Omega General Help / Re: Engine Overheating All The Time!
« on: 26 October 2006, 17:28:39 »
Hi, I may be off the mark here but it costs nothing to try this out...

If you can get at the radiator whilst it's warm, (avoiding the fan which could kick in at any time) carefully check that there isn't a cold area that indicates a blockage. If there is, try some radiator flush . I had this probelm on a Carlton and it took me ages to find out what it was. Eventually I had to chang the radiator but the problem was sorted instantly.
I had hissing noises too but it was the higher pressure caused by overheated coolant operating within a reduced area.

All the best

Omega General Help / Re: Cruise enabled - Birmingham/Solihull

Had I bothered to find out the cost of  a new cruise control stalk, I would probably have gone for that option too.  Ah well, fingers crossed.

It may be a false economy having had the cruise stalk fitted because 'she who must be obeyed' now wants a weekend away. She pushed home the advantage saying that I can test the cruise control on the motorway on our way there.
Oh I suppose so...... if we must......but only for you dearest ........;D

I should have mentioned that my 2000 X Reg CD saloon is an Automatic transmission. Perhaps someone can advise whether the clutch switch is of any consequence when fitting a stalk to an auto. :-?

The stalk cost me £15 plus VAT plus postage from a salvage yard, initial contact via emails then by phone. (The salvage yard has already been mentioned on this site)

It seems they've had a run on Omega cruise control stalk sales recently..... :o

Omega General Help / Cruise enabled - Birmingham/Solihull
« on: 30 October 2006, 18:16:17 »
For those who own facelift Omega's this may be of some help.

I bough and fitted a used cruise control stalk to my 2000 X reg 2.2CD Omega saloon.
I took it to a vauxhall main dealer service centre in Yardley Birmingham (there's only one so it's easy to find out who they are) and it cost me £53.46p to have cruise control enabled.  This may not be the cheapest but they only had the car for a coupe of hours and I now have a very smooth cruise control facility on my lovely 'Meega.   ;D :y ;)

To reitterate the existing information on this site, Facelift Omega's only need the stalk fitting and cruise enabled with Tech 2 equipment. Nothing else is needed because the electrics are already fitted to the car as standard. The stalk I fitted to my car had the additional small 4 pin plug loom attached. It was a little awkward to find the small socket to plug the stalk loom into 'cause it was tucked in behind the stalk site main body and need to be fished out a little.  It took about 10 minutes to fit the stalk and the only tool needed was a medium length cross head screwdriver for the 5 screws (three underneath the steering cowling and one to either side of the steering wheel with a plastic cap concealing them. Accessed by turning the steering. It's also handy to unscrew the steering adjustment lever and remove the two halves of the plastic cowling. I checked that all normal functions (indicators etc) were working before putting the cowling back on. Sorted.

Total cost to get cruise up and running was £75. Well worth it me thinks........

If anyone DOES know of a Tech 2 in Solihull, I would appreciate knowing too. I've got the 'retrofit cruise control' bug and will need tech 2 to activate it.  ;)

Hi all, thanks for the welcome messages.
I completed an advanced vehicle examiners course some years ago whwre my Carlton was dragged into 'class' (it was a big room) to enable the demonstration of the worm and roller steering box mechanism as opposed to rack 'n pinion. THE MAN said worms are far superior to R 'n P, hence the chosen name 'worm n' roller'

Omega's also have a steering box. Goodeee!!!
