I've got a second hand Amp and cheap (ish) I could sell you, from memory its a Blupunk Velocity,  it runs various speaker set ups inc Sub into 4 or 2 ohms, can't remember the model or Power but its more than enough to fill an Megy.

I've PM you mate, also if its the right one i'm after, as your in essex is perhaps like to bring the car, plug it in and see if it does the job like, would prob take me an hour to get up to essex from where I am

I adjusted some of the settings, but the sound quality is appauling. when considered with all the wiring in place and my home cinema amp in the boot (obviously plugged into a mains socket) the overall set up sounds rather good.

I think ill go for a different amp (BTW new problem please see my thread in the technical forum

BOO HOO :(

(sorry this may be a bit long)

As some of you might be aware, I have been slowly but surely removing my bose system and then fitting all aftermarket equipment. But a few problems keep arising which I kind of would imagined, i have now found out that the amplifier I have purchased I do not believe to be man enough for the job.

I have wired my Kenwood loom into my amplifier and run all the necessary wiring from the front of the car to the back of the car (power lead and audio leads + x 8 speaker wires either side of the car)

You can hear the music coming out of the speakers but it is very distorted with not even having to turn the volume on the head unit (or the gain on the amp) very high at all, so in essence, the quality if crap...

I know the wiring + speakers are ok, because what I have done as a test is took my home cinema amp (100 watt per channel RMS), and plugged the speaker wires and gave it an input and I was blown away by the quality at all levels, but obviously as it is a a home cinema amp i put it back in my house again

The amplifier i brought on ebay is this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150300056514&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=005

And the uprated speakers I have put in the doors are at x2 standard tweeters that were orginally in the car, x2 17cm 60 watt rms, x2 10cm 40 watt rms and x2 6x9 100watt rms

Price is obviously an issue in this day and age

Can anyone recommend an amplifier for my kit :)

Thanks

P.s I also had to take my 2nd head unit back to the shop that I had purchased, as it only had one pair of RCA leads to go to an amp, and I was told that they are only for a sub, and wouldn't sound all that great, so I had to take it back and get a head unit that came with the correct spefications for running that I've got.

note to self, I will NEVER be doing this again, the amount of head units, time, shouting and swearing, cutting hole in the rear shelf (both metal and plastic) and actually finding somewhere to actually run the damn wires down the car, a NIGHTMARE !!!

Magic, thanks a lot

I will be sending this thing back then

:)

I have recently found out that the amplifier I have brought has high and low inputs, although the connection for the high output is not RCA only the ones for low inputs are, so therefore what exactly do I have to to make the high input connector into RCA.

You will see by my picture of the side of the amp what the female connection looks like, and also the cable that came supplied with the amp, my head unit also comes with x2 pairs of rca connectors, one for high and one for low, the rcas in the back of the headunit are for high inputs, so that is the one that i have plugged those into.

I think this is why the quality is piss poor like.

was it the same speakers?

Mine were just hitting the window  it would push the speaker out as it went down

Doug

My speakers were mutant speakers and a similar size to yours 17cm in the front, does yours have the black speaker pods as standards in it ?

Mine did, I just attached the speaker to it, adding a hole or 2 and tested with the window as I was worried also and it went past it.

I forgot I had the pods, as I had placed them in a bag, i thought I would have to actually cut the door as well as i saw the stupidly small speaker hole.

that doesn't help you though, although thought I would make a commend  :o

"doog" mate

I just fitted some deep speakers just like yours in the front and rear of my car, mine had speakers pods as standard ??? , and my newbies were much much deeper, just like yours, and they fitted perfectly with the pods already in there, I've got an elite that "had" the bose system in it so perhaps mine came with them in as stanard, because I see what you mean, you were to put the window down then it might have caught on it :s

Ok, so now I have purchased myself some 6x9s (100watt rms) for the parcel shelf (now finally cut out, took ages !!!!)

Some 10cm's for the rear (30 watt rms) and some 17's (40 watt rms) for the front, all now installed, btu as my head unit is not man enough to cope with the extra power load I am going to have to get myself an amplifier that i would like to mount in the glove comparment.

Only difficulty is, Im not too sure what wires to move over to the amplifier ?

Am I correct in making this statement

On the Audio connector on the omega on the ISO plug, i remove those wires the + and the - and then move those over to my amplifier ? and run RCA leads from my head unit to my new amp ?

Because I really do not want to run new wires from my amp to each individual door (as I have now put all the door cards back on again lol)

Any help would much be appriciated

Thanks

Mate

Seriously take it from someone who has had not end of trouble with the stupid bose system these past few months, I went down the same channels as yourself fitting an aftermarket unit. power but no sound.

Had to get wires moved around etc (beyond me so i paid someone to make all the speakers run off the head units amp)

But then as more experienced people advised me, speakers are running at 2 ohms instead of 4 and eventually will case headunit damage so you will have to take out ALLL the speakers and change those with aftermarket units aswell so I spent a few hours taking all the door cards off etc and now thinking what to buy next speaker wise :s

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Rear Blind
« on: 16 September 2008, 23:24:16 »
I recently took my bose system out as it was annoying and frustrating so i ripped all of it out now I can get 2 bikes in the boot instead of just one :)
My rear blind worked fine before i took the rear shelf out (very carefully mind you) and I just knew that when I go put it back it would stop working

Suprise, suprise it stopped working, I can hear a relay or something clicking at the back although no action, can't be bothered to take it all out again and I never used it anyway.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Removal of bose ?

Hey

I will most probably get rid of the tweeters as well then, this whole thing has been one long saga, in case anyone wants the story

1 Brought the car with the CD player non funtional (did not want to pay £150 for a vx referbished replacement that dnt even play mp3s
2.Went to fit aftermarket head unit, (found these forums :)) and found out it was because of the old bose setup
3.Got someone to rearrange wiring and fit aftermarket head unit
4.Wanted steering controls so brought an adapter, those didnt work, told for newer generation pioneer headunits i needed the sony adapter no the poineer one, steering controls kind of worked and some didnt
5.God fed up, took headunit back and steering controls and purchased a kenwood system, all now working ok
6.Then told old bose speakers running at 2 ohms so would need to change to prevent any further damage (which is true because at high volumes all the lights in the car would "faintly" beat to the music ;p
7.Found rear blind guide and door car removal guide and removed entire bose setup

The old bose setup is for sale if anyone is interested BTW, or if its worth nothing, ill put it in a box and put it in the loft

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Removal of bose ?
« on: 14 September 2008, 17:51:14 »
I've recently changed my head unit to a kenwood all singing all dancing unit and made the wireing so it all runs off the head units amp, although im told that the bose speakers in the car run @ 2 ohms so this will result in damage to the head unit and to be honest, i never thought the bose was all that great in the car anyway so ive now removed all the speakers/amp etc.

What about the tweeters, the sticker on the bak just says "GM", is this a Bose product also running at 2ohms, should I change these aswell or will these be ok to leave in ?

Thanks

I just took back my pioneer HU and exchanged it with a Kenwood one and brought new steering controls and finally the controls are now all working, whoever told me my head unit was at fault.

I feel like im going to be sick!!!!!! It all seems to be working ok at the minute, in regards to money ill probably wait and just see what happens I guess, if the HU stops working within a year, ill send it back under warranty.

Thats not the info i wanted to hear :(
Misuse and poor fitment is unlikely to be covered by warranty....

lol id hope they will never know, but more to the point hopefully it wont come to that (although judging in regards to the ohmidge) then it might.

To be perfectly honest, this whole bose set up seems to be a big hassel for many people, I mean even when i had my orginal vauxhall stereo, it wasnt really all that good anyway 2 of my mates had bose in there audis and GOODNESS that made a noise, although I guess the set up in my car (when it was all bose) was around 6 or 7 years old by now.

I'll probably just leave the rear shelf aswell, as I cannot be bothered to take it out. I also find it very confusing why the BOSE system would be completely different as to all the others.

Just for the record,

I have never seen, nor ever been made aware of a standard or aftermarket head unit that is 2 Ohm stable over 4 channels.

The Pioneer head units of a good few years ago that claimed 2 ohm stability was actually for running 3 channels giving you nothing more than 2 fronts at four ohms and a very low power single rear channel at 2 Ohms for a sub. Needless to say it was a pathetic effort and was dropped almost as fast as it was launched.

 ;)

Hi

Could you perhaps elaborate what you mean ? All I know is that my head unit seems to work ok through all the speakers, (well before i tried the steering controls, now i gotta get a new one)

Any guesses though in regards to removing all the carpet right at the back of the car, to remove the BOSE units in the back ??

Thanks
