Oh crap :) Ok, thanks, I think I have a ballast pack lying around somewhere in garage... I installed one on my bike a few years back. As they come in pairs, I have one left over. Not Opel of course, but I can't see the difference really ... We'll I'll keep an eye on it and if it acts up again I'll swap. Thanks again for the intel.  :y

I don't believe it's the bulbs, they are new. And when it lights up, it burns bright and color is the same with the other. Swapping ballasts of course is reasonable anyway ... But I'll do it when I have few more ideas...

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / HID acting up, what's failing?
« on: 14 September 2008, 11:38:38 »
Hei!

I noticed HEAD, TAILLIGHT came up on display one day when driving. Went out, left side was blind. Switched lights off and on again, both lamps came on, worked for a few minutes and then left failed again. That was a week ago. Since then I've used fogs. But when I tried sometimes, both HID's work fine. Never left them on long enough to fail again. The same day I found this fault, I saw that if I switched off and on really quickly, then the left wouldn't light up. Reflections from a car before indicated that it TRIED to fire, I saw it flashing lightly, but then shut off. If I left an interval between switching, it fired up and stayed lit for a while.
So, what's failing? Ballast pack? bad connection? Maybe overheating issue? Ideas?  :o
Bulbs are new (from china) changed them less than 2 months ago.
Any help appreciated  :y

Interestingly, my 4 pin relay was much quieter than the original. But it's not GM, it's some 3rd party unit. I'm having a hard time hearing it sometimes now :) Wanna swap? I'f I only lived closer ...  ;D

No switch on mine, I guess I'll just solder them all together then.

Anyone on the strange two bulb blinking topic I spoke of earlier? Or is it just easier to remove the bulb again :)

7
Oh shoot, of course, I was wondering why there were two extra wires left over :) Thanks! Will sort them out tomorrow

Sorry to barge in on this topic, but I have a strange problem.
Just fitted me a towbar and connected the electrics. I went the easy way and cut off the socket and soldered the wires. Heatshrinked of course. Now the strange part. I fitted the 4 pin relay and while the speedo was out I thought I'd fill all the empty bulb sockets. The missing ones were: towbar, seatbelt warning and catalyser heat warning (I guess that's what it is) Now when I connect the trailer and use trun signal, TWO lights blink with the turn indicator. Addition to towbar light, the catalyser light also blinks. I guess there's a reason why there's no bulb from the factory ... Anyone else have any experience with this?
Another matter, not related: I don't have rear fog's. Switch works, indicator lights up in the dash, but no juice to bulbs. Weird thing is, there IS juice in caravan connector wires... Is there a missing relay, fuse or something? Checked all to my knowledge, everything is in its place and no blown fuses ... Not that I need the fogs every day but MOT certainly checks them ...
Any help appreciated. :'(

This link is for facelifts. From 2000 on, it won't do you any good in pre-facelift where dash is different.

It seems to me they degrade over time... I haven't noticed that bulbs faded on my car, but replacing them did wonders. I'd recommend it :P

EDIT: I put 4300  in. I don't want blue I want LIGHT!!! It's still pretty bright blue :D

Got my bulbs from Ebay yesterday. Installed them today. Easy enough if done with proper torx tool. What a difference! Much brighter now and both are the same colour now. But unfortunately discovered that probably both regulators are broken inside. The whole ficture moved pretty freely inside the lamp when I changed the bulb. Is it fixable? I have to dissassemble the lamp right?

Quick question. Got this email from supplier:

"Could you confirm with us which size of bulb you need?

D2S OR D2R

They are slightly different."

I have no idea ... help?  ::)

Just ordered a pair from ebay, thanks for the link. We'll see how they turn out. I got 4300K. I want new ones, cause it seems either one is failing soon, or replacement has been done with different colour temp. My left side is bright white while right one is more yellow'ish.

BTW how the hell do change the bulbs?

Well, have to get a Parrot then for the phone I guess :) Thank you all for the answers.
