General Discussion Area / Re: How to sell my Omega
« on: 07 April 2025, 20:01:18 »
You need 250 posts, I seem to remember it's at the top of the for sale board.

Just looked, it's actually on the front page.

Thanks for that, I couldn't find it anywhere!  Seems a little high. Maybe it's a sign that I shouldn't be selling...

General Discussion Area / How to sell my Omega
« on: 07 April 2025, 18:26:28 »
Sadly the time has come to part ways with my Omega, however I don't seem to have the ability to place an ad on this forum.

Am I missing something? I've been a forum member since 2022 and made 60 odd posts so not a complete newbie...

Thanks for any tips!

« on: 27 February 2025, 13:24:00 »
Haven't had need to buy one myself but I've discovered a Ukrainian firm producing replacement V6 oil coolers:

Omega General Help / Re: Bonnet support arms

There's probably another 5 kg of weight, but it's right at the far end so there's a bit of leverage there.

The pre-facelift bonnet struts are 240N, the later ones are 290N

For the track rod ends I've used this separator which I picked up in my local Halfords:

My big question is about locking the cams. The ABS site says they should always be locked but my mechanic says he never locks them unless the belt is already broken, and he marks the pulleys with white paint for alignment purposes before belt removal. He's done thousands of timing belts but not a v6 Omega.

Are you an ABS member? They will loan you the locking kit for a nominal deposit/cost of postage. Or you can often find them second hand on eBay for about £30. Even if its possible to do the job without them, it's just so much easier with them

General Car Chat / Re: Insignia 6 speed auto gearbox oil change
« on: 23 July 2024, 10:01:15 »
I had a Volvo V70 once which was having gearbox trouble. Took it to an automatic transmission "specialist" who plugged it into an OBD reader and told me to get a new torque converter fitted, and that they could then do a full transmission rebuild for about £2k.
Went to an independent volvo specialist who suggested to drain and flush the ATF first of all. Rather than just refill they flushed it through with a large quantity of ATF. That improved things but it was still a bit clunky. They then replaced the solenoid pack which cost about £1k including labour but it was as good as new after that. There was also a software update they did which takes into account the wear and tear on the box and stops it changing into neutral when stopped eg. At traffic lights.

I don't know if the Insignia has the same gearbox but my Saab 9-3 V6 had the same transmission albeit 6 gears rather than the Volvo's 5. Apparently the labour to change the solenoid on the 6 speed is a lot less as there is no need to drop the subframe. I think it's the Aisin Warner 55-50 or similar in the Volvo/Saab

Omega General Help / Re: Wishbone & bush advice?
« on: 18 July 2024, 23:22:45 »
I've recently replaced my wishbones with help from Nick in Kent.

Have a look through this post for some tips - the consensus was to buy the wishbones from ATP in Germany (via eBay) and fit polybushes at the front as these will last the life of the car:

I paid about £80 for a kit including both wishbones, track rod ends and drop links, and another £80 for the polybushes (optional).

Omega General Help / Re: Central locking won't lock
« on: 18 July 2024, 23:17:26 »
Are your survivors sagging?

If so it might be an idea to put a strip of tape across the contact in the clip. Doesn't have to cover the whole contact, just the first half.of the range of movement so that it has to definitely be down before the lights come on.

Are you suggesting it's the angle of the visor that switches on the lights? I'd assumed that the switch was operated when the plastic cover was opened. As mentioned previously I've just removed the bulbs for now as that is guaranteed to solve it  :y

How did you find it ?
He just put the visor down and there is was  :)

Pretty much this  ;D

Can't take the credit really, as all I did was Google "vauxhall omega battery drain" and the first result that came up was "check your sun visor lights aren't staying on"

Update: Battery kept going flat - eventually traced to passenger side sunvisor mirror lamp!

Central locking working absolutely fine once battery charged, and visor bulbs removed as a short term fix.

Didn't have time to mess about with it before leaving for work so I've just had to manually lock all the doors and boot. Haven't had to do that particular operation since the early 90s  ;D

Omega General Help / Central locking won't lock
« on: 04 July 2024, 13:46:31 »
Left the omega parked up for a week or so. Returned to it today and unlocked it to get something out of the boot.

Closed the boot, pressed lock and the car locked and then unlocked itself again. I haven't disturbed any other doors than the tailgate. Any ideas? Every time I try and lock it I'm getting the same response.

*Update* I got in and tried to start it in case it was a low voltage issue and the battery is indeed low enough to fail to turn the starter. Could this be having an effect?
