I use my Nokia N95 for navigation, it connects via bluetooth and mutes the radio/cd whilst speaking announcements and sits comfortably next to the auto stick for a good signal. Cheap and cheerful but works well

The radio will likely need a code, unless the previous owner has switched off code protection.

Depending on your ecu it may forget its settings and run rough for a while when the battery is reconnected.

Probably best to leave it on the car when it's recharged to be honest

I've only attempted one, and it dont work properly afterwards (however I dont know if it worked in the first place though!)

Basicly it no longer asked about 'something' which needed doing, however it never gave me any traffic updates etc either. Wasn't 100% dead though, as it still spoke when you pressed the button!

I must have another go one day!  

HA HA! Disconnected my clocks the other day to fit a new ccrt screen, as soon as the clocks were out, she pipes up, Trafficmaster, automatic mode and the light goes green.

Plug em back in and back to 'something needs doing' mode

Have acquired a trafficmaster with a load of wiring loom from another Elite, I remember reading that the units can be 'enhanced' , I have a silver one that arrived today, and haven't looked at the colour of the one in the car as I understand that there is a black unit too.

Which one can be 'enhanced', and are they interchangeable easily enough?

On the Alfa I had previously when I put LED sidelights in the 'Bulb Blown' warning came on all the time.

Does the Omega monitor the sidelights?

Ahh i got you, i think im gunna upgrade then if i have the 700 unit and look for Amp and shelf Woofers, i take it its as easy as plug and play with config?

Can't speak for the non-Bose unit, but am more than happy with my current setup when playing cds. It's more than loud enough with no distortion whatsoever, not like the chavmobile drum n bass sounds you hear from some cars.

My CCRT700 unit is a BOSE one, its printed on the cassette flap, for the want of a better word!

Without the rear shelf speakers I don't think it'll be a BOSE system

heheh... you said flap

Suppose the alternative 'slit' wouldn't have been any better

Not connecting to ECU not a function of software, rather an issue with usb emulator!!

Agreed, usb is the weak link in the chain and will be buggy at best! Try, try try again is the motto with it!

Been looking to buy a cheapo cd player for my 2litre CD only has radio/cass in it, looked on egay at the ones that will swap straight over
Vx CDR 500 cd players, even bid on one but they got carried away bidding i feel.......Soooo is there any other makes that I could fit easily still being able to use the st/whl controls although thats not too important just something that will work ok in the space it fits in !

ccr600/800 with external cdchanger if you want to stay standard.  if you fancy a challenge, ccrt700, or ncdr1x00

Even more of a challenge - Bose CCRT700
