Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: no reversing lights
« on: 08 December 2009, 13:31:28 »
by any chance do you have a towbar with electrics?

If so it is very likely that the  wiring is incorrect to the towbar electrics - hence reverse lights only work on caravan etal,

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / URGENT Batery changing
« on: 26 November 2009, 10:19:04 »
Car has been standing for 3 - 4 months -(The dreaded BIG C returned ) so main battery dead -nearly. but have a replacement all charged up and ready to fit
Remembered when removing main battery a sequence is required to prevent the power sounder going off.
IS it ignition on -  turn off - remove -ve terminal from battery within 10 seconds?

look here . Your problem is to do with the wiring of the fog lights .whoever wired your towbar connected to the fogwire for the trailer and not the one for the car - quite a common problem

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Battery light on-Alternator
« on: 31 January 2008, 10:29:09 »
Light on usually means that the alternator is not producing enough power to cover the needs of the car.

When you got the new battery was it because it was going flat? ie not enough power to start car etc. Did anyone check the output of the alternator before they sold you the battery? as a duff alternator will lead to a flat battery

All towbars of any age fit omegs the only fly in the ointment is eec type approval
iirc     post 98 cars require an eec approved towbar (it has a label on it stating eec legalityt)so a pre 98 towbar cannot legally be fitted to a post 98 car.
I have been stopped on one of those motorway police/caravan checks and that was one item checked

check on witters webpage for legalities

Omega General Help / exhaust just before the rear box of a 2.2i
« on: 02 January 2010, 23:05:26 »
the only bit of my exhaust system showing any signs of failure (mot like) is the section of the exhaust just before it enters the back box. has anyone ever replaced this section with flexible pipe. surely it has to work out cheaper than two mid sections and a back box

Omega General Help / Re: Omega 2.2 idle
« on: 14 August 2009, 11:54:06 »
the 2.2 is drive by wire , so first check the connections with the socket/s on the  throttle body are secure
then get the potentiometer/ throttle electronics tested - this if I remember requires tech2.
Unfortunately if this shows that the pot in the throttle body isnt working properly ie erratic idle then the only solution is a replacement throttle unit as the pot isnt accessible or repairable

Omega General Help / Re: changing a water pump on a 99 2.0 cd
« on: 13 August 2009, 00:12:52 »
remove cambelt cover, slacken timing belt tensioner remove waterpump, replace waterpump and gasket retension the cambelt ensuring nothing has moved in the meantime or timing will be out. fill rad with antifreeze mixture start engine and check water levels . stop engine and fill radiator check around new waterpump for any leaks replace cambelt cover
BUT as you can see changing the waterpump means disturbing the cambelt so changing the cambelt and tensioners at the same time is most advisable unless its all recently been changed 1k miles or so

was the fault/s diagnosed with a tech2 reader. If not find someone who has tech2 and importantly the skill to read and interpret the the results - quite a skill.
a couple of members have tech2 if you are near them
update your location as some members may know of a tech2 facility near to you
