Cheers Jimbob,
I have just checked mine  [ Elite ] & it is slightly different layout, I have the lower orange relay but have 3 fuses next to this, where your 99 is I have a yellow relay with an Orange with this & a 50amp fuse next to a 40amp fuse, I have no other relays after these.

Omega General Help / Re: Automatic gear lever lights

If you haven't a 1/4" drive & can get another socket on the bolt which protrudes a bit you can also use mole grips to get it started.  If you are not confident then help is the best idea, I removed , cleaned , checked contacts were working with a meter & replaced it in under an hour [ although mine wasn't the problem, still using it as a manual  :-[ ]

Hi Dan, There should be no reason to release the heat shield. I used a 1/4" drive with a long reach socket to undo mine, you do have to search with your fingers to find the bolt or use a mirror & torch to see what you are looking at. I found it had to be a 1/4" drive though as other size drives seem too big. Quicker than a bit of turn with a spanner as once the bolt is loose just use the socket between your fingers to spin the bolt out.
Try the mirror & torch to locate the bolt first though.

I found a right up on gearbox, alarm & ABS code flashing, it told you which pins for the Astra & Vectra 10 pin but not the 16 pin although it was mentioned as possible?

What pin numbers on the 16 plug Omega do you short to get the gearbox ECU to flash faults?

I used a 1/4" drive with a long 10mm socket to get to the top bolt, bit fiddly especially putting it back in but works.

Today I have checked all fuses, stripped, cleaned, checked contacts & set up the selector switch, I have topped up the gearbox oil but still have no lights to the selector. The snow flake will not work, the warning is up & in 3rd gear. The Cruise control does not work either?
I have done an alternator check & it holds 14v under load although occasionally it blipped under 12v [ could be the problem ] but now I am at a loss.

I now have to count the movement to get the selector correct in the dark, also the head lights are a bit dimmer so I am still thinking alternator & coincidence.

Somewhere I read of somebody had trouble with their gearbox & a few other electrical items, turned out the alternator was not producing 12 volts, I read this somewhere after I posted & started searching. It's only a hunch with the cruise control stopping working & funny things happening with the lpg & petrol not switching on at first.

Hi, I have checked the fuse & it is ok. I have also just found the  cruise control is not working!! it could be related & I have heard the alternator failing can cause funny things.  Does any body have the item number for an alternator for a 2.5 auto 1999?

Omega General Help / Auto Gearbox warning up
« on: 27 December 2009, 11:48:32 »
Recently we have been having to use the snow flake button alot, it has worked a treat but yesterday the car seemed sluggish as if the button was still on. I have now lost all lights down the side to indicate position of the selector & the snow flake button will no longer work. Also the warning Auto gearbox has come up, I have had the commutator off this morning & cleaned [ had oil in it & was dirty ] but this has not cured the problem. The car will still drive but does not seem right & does not pull away right. It feels like the gearbox may be stuck in 3rd. I have tried it with manual change as well but only a trial, not driving.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the help, the car has just been brought back by recovery. I had a suggestion on VXON which was spot on. The key had fell to bits, the wife found the transponder & didn't know what it was [ just a bit of plastic ] but luckily kept it. Popped it back in & away it went.

These Forums are a Godsend at times, thanks for the replies. Live & learn.

Can't get to her at present, have phoned recovery. I just hoped it was something simple she could try.
