Yes it does still have the 80 litre LPG conversion, which is the main reason it hasn't been sent to the recyclers.
Been quoted £1100 by Alfa Motors in Westwell road Streatham to rebuild the top end.
Tiny bits of metal found in the exhaust i'm told, which may be valve impact on pistons!

Hello, yep about 2 i'd say. RAC man says this doesn't happen often at this kind of mileage (55k not 70k as originally thought).

Anyone with a unconfirmed service history or over 50k since the last belt change, pay now or pay much more later!

Hello, just had the news i was dreading- tensioner has broken.
Had a look at the history again and saw that the belt and tensioner were actually replaced 55 thousand miles back. Pretty irrelevant now that i'm looking for a good used engine (x25e).
Anyone aware of garage near the Mitcham / Croydon area who might be able to do an engine swap or rebuild the top end? I have costed the parts at around £220-280. Realistic or not?
Oh and about 11-13- hours labour?

Omega General Help / v6 engine malfunction light on engine clattering
« on: 13 February 2009, 14:32:07 »
Help! Black beauty drove fine until yesterday, when engine warning light came on accompanied by a loud clattering noise like the engine running without oil or with a very worn camshaft.
Switched off immediately. Loads of oil in the sump and still very clear.
Did have a rummage thru' the service history and saw that the belt had been changed about 70 odd thousand miles ago.
Tried to restart and saw the serpentine belt running as the starter churned away unsuccessfully. But the engine still fired albeit on a few cylinders and the clatter got worse, so no more of this until i can get more advice.
IF the belt has snapped then why is the motor still firing?  Why would the  engine check malfunction light illuminate for a MECHANICAL failure if the belt has snapped?

Omega General Help / Re: Omega LPG 99 switching off gas when hot
« on: 02 October 2008, 15:18:17 »
Useful replies; thank you all.
I have spoken to an outfit called Battersea Autogas today and a chap there informs me he has the diagnostic equipment for the Lovato system including the computer cables. They are located in Buckhold road, Battersea and are apparently well established?
Anyone have any info about this company?
Have booked it in for next week, but before taking it in i should add that on the last time i drove it the temp' reached 92c and the engine management  light flickered for a few seconds without any driveability problems.

Omega General Help / Omega LPG 99 switching off gas when hot
« on: 01 October 2008, 11:54:16 »
Greetings to all omega men and women!
Have a '99 2.5 v6 automatic with a Lovato multi point system  LPG system fitted. This is an extremely well maintained car with 140k and only one fault which is that after  around 30 minutes of running or whenever the engine temp' reaches 90 plus, the LPG switch / gauge (which has 4 green leds and a push button marked G) starts beeping insistently. The only way to stop this noise is to press the G whereby the green leds disappear to be replaced by a single flashing blue led.
I'm assuming now the car is running on some kind of gas/petrol mode and will be happy to run on without further ado. But just a few minutes later this infuriating beeping starts again, this time forcing me to press the G again and switch off gas altogether, ( no lights of any description on the switch this time.)
THe obvious suggestion would be to change the thermostat and renew the antifreeze and hope that the engine runs cooler and removes the need for further expenditure.
On the other hand surely this system only installed in 2007 should be easily capable of operating at 90 degrees plus operating temperatures?
Any idea where in the engine bay the thermostat housing is to be found?
