Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I am going to go with the helicoil option and get a Pela pump so I don't have to drain the b#####r again.

Sounds interesting fix too. Never heard of them before - quick search shows up dazzling array of sizes, types etc. Any guidance as to just what I will need and where from?
Some talk about taps and drills - would this be a sump off job or how do you avoid the scurf getting into the engine or .... ??
Thanks guys

Thanks for that. Sound a fix to me. You would recommend isopon rather than aralditing in the old bung?

That is the last time I let a garage do a service for me. Came to change oil myself today and found sump plug stiff to undo - v suspicious and sure enough replacing it, and it won't tighten. Tried PTFE plumbers tape and got it to hold but still not fully tight - don't dare. I am just worried it will blow off whilst driving.
Any suggestions as to a fix? Is it a sump off and re-tap job or worse, a new sump!!
If I bought one of those oil change pump down the dippy stikky hole gizmos, I could permanently seal off the plug - is there a way to do that without taking the sump off?
I am open to all suggestions ...... !!

So does eml come on with ign then?  If not, put the bulb back in!
It works then, just fine.

Thanks - I will check the cheap things first when I get a space!

In answer to some of your questions - no the eml light never comes on when running and I did the paper clip test and got no fault codes out

Any idea how to get to the potentiometer at the accelerator end?

Omega General Help / Revs won't stay where I put them on 2.5TD

Any help on weird accelerator problem would be welcomed. I have a facelift cdx 2.5td with the BMW inside. I am getting some uneven power at slow speeds around 1000rpm in 2nd or 3rd - when idling along in yet another motorway queueueue.http://images.omegaowners.com/forum/yabbfiles22/Templates/Forum/default/angry.gif It shows as a power judder. Accelerate a bit and all is fine.
I was idley musing over this and tried slowly pushing the accelerator down - whilst parked this is. Revs went up a bit and then shot up to nearly 2000. Slowly letting the accelerator up and the reverse happened - sudden drop in revs. I could not get it to stay steady at between about 900 and 1600rpm.
Any ideas? Is my engine management thingy f****d or could it be anything cheaper.http://images.omegaowners.com/forum/yabbfiles22/Templates/Forum/default/thumbsup.gif
I just joined your forum and love it already. So much good stuff
Cheers Christopher
