I just hate tinny music >:(I tried living with the miggy standard stuff for 8 months, convincing myself it was ok...Wrong!!I feel for you and hope you get it sorted out. Get those subs pumping soon :y

As has been mentioned, Halfrauds had all the bits required for DIN E sized stereo. I fitted a Sony into a new fascia. Added an extra adapter for steering wheel controls and it's been no bother. Because the Omega has good acoustics, if you went for a Bluetoooth headunit handsfree type, the mic picks up conversation no problem. It's personal choice but I coulcn't wait to get rid of the standard crate in my dashboard! :y

If blue lights were gay, it would be hilarious to see the plod with "Gaylights" flashing all over the the car. Esp if they came running at you with handcuffs. Would you run away or mince away? ;D ;D ;D Like I was told recently about my subwoofer, "Your car, your rules" I'm thinking of a mirrorball next...... :-?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Batteries too..
« on: 24 February 2010, 12:31:39 »
I don't know much about batteries but mine maybe dying like Andy B's on the next post! The little green ball isn't visible anymore in the inspection glass, so time maybe running out for it. Need a bit more beef though in the power. Running a few short journeys and a powerful stereo takes its toll ::)Any ideas?

As Griffin said, there is not a great deal of room behind the stereo. My DIN E replacement with all the steering wheel controls seemed to have masses of cable. Only just went in ::)

The fuel question did pop into my head. I filled up on my return from Kent, but at the usual place - Tesco. I know that's no guarantee as I well recall the issues of a year or so ago with contaminated fuel. Fortunately it didn't affect me as I was driving a diesel car then.

The car is going in for an oil & filter change on Tuesday (I don't even have the facilities to do an easy job like that!), I'll ask them to clear the codes/reset the light etc. and see how it goes.

Thanks for all the input, peeps! :y
Refer to Petrol prices in General discussion area about use of supermarket fuels :y

Had the same on a Vectra once.Did my nut in for ages and eventually I sourced it to the filler cap. While the fuel is still sloshing about after a run, stop the car and have a sniff around. I wasn't 100% but replaced the cap for a new one anyway and solved the problem instantly :y

Mine does that. It usually happens when I've had ECO on for a few days, then I turn it off to start the compressor and it starts to blow hot. I just reset it by totally switching OFF then AUTO again and it's all fine again. :y

Email sent...

As per email - what rotton luck!

If when you turned it over, water was coming out of no4 cylinder, it points  to a rather  spectacular head gasket failure!

Not uncommon on 2.2...

And yes, I am happy to assist  :y
James you're a star!Anyway, started to strip down and found a little mayo in breathers but no where near what I thought I'd find.I'm guessing more water to cylinder than water to oil where the break in the gasket has occured. I'm out of my depth a bit now though. Cambelt still on,exhaust manifold still on and throttle area still on. Camshafts exposed and lots of fresh oil sitting there. Dunno where TDC is,but I've got all the cam lobes as horizontal as poss and while manually cranking it feels more free.Without a Haynes manual I'm not going much further. Chicken!! :-[ ::) :D

Definately no over heating went on So I'm guessing head should be ok. I have a decent torque wrench but the thought of removing the cambelt doesn't inspire me. I don't have a locking tool either.
I'm waiting for someone to get back to me to do the job, so I may hold off for a couple of days until he does. meanwhile is it best to remove the plugs and any water left? I don't want corrosion in the cylinders if I will be leaving it for a few days.

Omega General Help / Aargh crap....

On M1 south earlier, first EML came on,second, coolant level-check so I pulled over and it was running rough and I had lost all coolant. Went to turn it over again....solid. No water in oil, so yep,you guessed it, head gasket. Called someone out and on removing 4th plug it was soaked. Turned it over and a huge fountain of water came out at the gearbox end of the block.
My first question is do these 4 pots need head skimming?
Second, is it a difficult job and what am I likely to encounter?
And third,if I took it to VX,ball park, what am I looking at cost wise?
I'm well disappointed.Only just had it serviced last week and now I need yet another coolant/oil change :( :( :( :( :( :(

Having just had mine changed by James V6cdx(thanks again) there wasn't much to write home about visually with the old one. There was a little movement though on the water pump shaft which I had asked him to replace anyway. Peace of mind maintenance pays! :y

When you say it "bottoms" out are you refering to the mudflaps scraping if so it's not too much to worrie about unless the handling is compromised.
The Omega was fitted with state of the art self adjusting mud flaps. On bumpy roads the gradually abraid themselfs on the tarmac until they dont catch. or if you drive in an area that has peticulary rough roads they snap themselves off altogether so as not to annoy or concern the driver.
G.M think of everything
::)
Yeah mine split over the winter so they are now in a landfill somewhere. I notice the difference though with crap on the sides of the car! :o

Omega General Help / Re: oil light
« on: 14 March 2010, 22:16:09 »
I once had that on a Vectra. Came back from a VX service and then when it was warm the oil light would flicker. On motorways I would get "check oil" on the dash from time to time. I changed the sender switch and it still did it. I couldn't be ar*ed to drop the sump and have a look at the pick up strainer so sold the car. Bet that's what the prob was though.I'll never know now ::)
