Omega General Help / Re: UK police spec gear lever.
« on: 14 April 2025, 20:30:05 »
Now I found much pleasant driving without trigger/pull-up lever.
When driving in 5th I must now remember that "R" stands for "reverse" and not for "racing top gear"  ;D

Unfortunately I cannot check the diff since it  is not in my city. It will be purchased from a reputable breaker with warranty.

I don't have an ex police car. Was just curious about what had different the police stick.
I'm currently building my own box/armrest and a longer lever for the gearbox will be perfect. I may try to take the whole stick out and replace it with a simple stick with no reverse trigger.

My reverse trigger works ok, but is slightly painful since the plastic is broken and I have to pull directly over the aluminium.
I have discovered that 1996 MY on the gear lever was made 1" shorter for better access to the radio. Maybe police spec maintained the longer one?

Omega General Help / UK police spec gear lever.
« on: 22 March 2025, 16:35:21 »
Hi folks,
My gear lever (1998 MFL) has a broken reverse trigger.
According to the Opel parts catalogue all gear levers are the same ...except for UK police spec ones.
What's the difference over the standard item?

Omega General Help / Diff ratio. How to identify.
« on: 16 March 2025, 05:16:24 »
Hi folks,
I will fit some oversized van tyres to my 2.5TD. As far as I know mine has a 3.45 diff ratio. 4.22 will suit perfectly my new tyre diameter...any clue on how to tell what ratio has a secondhand diff by its external look? Do they have some ID plate/tag or something?
TIA

Omega General Help / Plasma cutter
« on: 12 March 2025, 18:36:21 »
I have been gifted a small Parkside plasma cutter from Lidl.
I intend to use it on the Omega for some body repairs...any cautions other than disconnecting the battery an beeing aware of flamable parts?
TIA

Job done! Very useful the maintenance guide  about coils by Marks DTM Calib and tidla.
After some road miles including bumps and elk test, everything has settled down. Front 20 mm lift has vanished and rear 50mm lift has been reduced to just 20mm over rubber blocks or 40mm over sagged standard springs.
Really sweet and nice suspension now. No, you don't tell that those are HD springs. No loss in passenger comfort.
Once the winter is over I will restart some masonry works at the inlaws farmhouse. That will show how heavy cargo on boot and trailer are handled by the new suspension setup.

Today I have swapped the helper rubbers to the front. It was my brother who bought and installed them them at rear axle a few years ago. I always thought that they were SumoSprings, but they are actually Grayston brand, GE15 model.
After rubber removal my rear axle has maintained the same height (sure they will sag after a few miles). Front has raised 20mm (about 3/4").
I will try to find some time this weekend for installing the reinforced rear coils.

Omega General Help / Re: 2000 B2 seats in 1998 B1?
« on: 15 February 2025, 14:13:15 »
Thank you all for the info.
Mine was first registered in september 1998 and is the MFL type (i.e. headrest without "hole").
Once fitted the folding front seat I could start my "camper" conversion  8)
