was just trying to help . i read earlier that your maf reading was a bit low suggesting air or vac leak . thought of some possibilities some of which you may have already checked /eliminated

Sorry!! I read quickly and though it was another different case that was commented before in the post. I appreciate your help.

The engine is running smoothly, the only symptom is the fault light. The mechanic used a smoke machine to test for more more vac leaks and inspected all the connections and found nothing. He also told me that the MAF is in a good condition and it is not causing the problem, but I don't know if maybe he can miss something...

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Best regards.

The air filter takes literally 2 minutes to change. Why haven't you done it yet if it's on your list?

I haven't done it before because I had it replaced about a year and a half ago, so I thought (maybe wrongly) that it would be in good condition.

Besides that, do you think I should try the injector cleaner?

so to conclude . we are thinking there may still be an air leak (vacuum) before the maf somewhere ?
assuming there arnt any physical engine problems fundanentaly that can cause this then this leak could be a  number of (already checked too ) items.
inlet manifold -to-head.
injector manifold and injector seals to manifold.
breather seperator box, breather plastic top section, hoses and various 'o' rings associated with .
anything allowing extra air through the physical engine breathing such as rocker cover leaks.oil filler cap, dipstick etc
rings/seals on throttle body.
splits in the concertina hoses from throttle body down to front before maf.
connection to brake servo and vacuum take off to storage vessels .
thats a list which springs to mind . there may be more items ( or possibilities for the syptoms.for eg . what would a partially blocked exhaust show as ?  what would a poor air filter or blockage show ?)

these are areas that i will be checking on mine too when i  next  do the cambelt as i have a +3%  ish LTFT on mine which seems to affect nothing but i would like to reduce (most garages are telling me that within 10% is no issue anyway ) but im being told on here that it should be zero.

I am sorry @cam.in.head, I think that we are mixing both cases, maybe you can open a new post to make sure there is no confussion between both cars.

In my case, original poster here, I still have errors P0170 and P0173. The car is still running smoothly with no fault symptoms and my mechanic gave up as he can't find anything wrong to repair.

Would it be a good idea to try an injector cleaner like Liqui Moly Injection Reiniger?

I am also planning to change the air filter.

Best regards.

Hi everyone, I still have errors P0170 and P0173 on my Omega with the LTFT at over +25 on both banks. The car is still running smoothly with no fault symptoms and my mechanic gave up as he can't find anything wrong to repair. At the official Opel workshop here (now stellantis...) they can't find anything wrong either and I'm running out of ideas on how to get out of this one.

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to try an injector cleaner like Liqui Moly Injection Reiniger and refuel with E10?

I am also planning to change the air filter.

Best regards.

I'm sorry but he didn't told me the exact error code, he just told me it was related to the fuel system and this time he couldn't clear the code until he changed the fuel filter.

I will try to do as many kilometres as I can these days to see if the problem is solved.

Thanks!

Finally changed without any problem, the mechanic told me that the timing belt needed changing a year ago (at least), it was not in very good condition.

7
The mechanic told me that the OBD2 was now reading a fuel system related code, so he started changing the fuel filter. Check engine light has gone for the moment and now is time to continue driving to see if the issue is resolved.

8
I will definitely ask the mechanic tomorrow to check for more vacuum leaks in the system.

9
Why? Maybe it is better to change it directly?

10
Back to the start, the errors P0170 and P0173 have appeared again after repairing the air leak and changing the two lambda sensors... I will ask the mechanic to change the air filter and clean the MAF sensor, maybe change the fuel filter too, I hope there isn't another hidden leak somewhere.

Given that the price is 40€/hour I won't complain if it takes 6 hours, if they need that time to guarantee a good job. I would love to learn how to do it myself, but I dont't have anyone to teach me and I don't think this is one of those things you can learn on your own.

I think I'll get the job done with this mechanic, price is more reasonable than the official workshop and I've played Russian roulette long enough, almost 24 years...

Price from the independent workshop seems to be quite more reasonable, 790€ including the water pump and 6 hours of work.

4 years! I can't even imagine spending 1700€ every 4 years... So this should be a common maintenance task so I think it's ok not to stick to the official workshop.

That's exactly what I was thinking after researching some prices on the web. I think I will change it regardless of whether I keep the car or not, but I will wait for the independent workshop for a more "realistic" price.

Thank you for your comments!

I understand, thank you for the tip!, I will try it as soon as i can.
