Hi, if you go this post  http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1169504175  and look at the picture of the engine.  The pulley would be on the sticky out bit that has had its pully wheel removed  Its the first wheel dead center just under all the plastic trim bits that cover the cambelt pulleys.  If that is the water pump  it may explain it all, the noise sounds like something stuck inside rattling, mabey the remains of broken impellers.  May also explain an overheating problems I've been having, altough those have dissipeared latley.

The pulley wheel is the one with 4 little bolts and one big bolt/nut in the middle.   if its that its proably worth fixing.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Is it terminal...
« on: 23 January 2007, 18:19:21 »
Hi,
I think my 2.5V6 (after 187000 miles) has got a terminal problem...

First I got a strange rubbing noise, was told its the cambelt tentioners so its booked in for this.  Then it started making a clunking/tapping/knocking noise.  Looking at the front of the engine, the big pulley wheel in the middle(crank shaft pulley???   I'm not a mechanic.) just under the cover for the cam belt.  Every time the the engine knocks/clunks/taps, the pulley wheel jumps forward and twists to the right(towards the left of car)  so I am assuming something in the engine has gone badly wrong?????  This inly seems to hapen badly at low revs, is not as bad at high revs.
Other than this and the other symptoms below the car runs fine, idles fine, no rough running, no loss of power, no warning lights, will still hit top speed(almost) and accelrates like it should.
The car was only a ebay shed for work, so wont cry if its a dead loss.

Other problems
She has a bad oil leak underneath somewhere, about 3 litres per 1000 miles but i never let it get low and always top it up.
Using coolant without a leak.. Mabey a dodgy head gasket??? Coolant topped up every 3 weeks
Slipping clutch.. engine speed goes up road speed doesnt, worst in 4th gear up hills.
Was booked in to get the cam belt tentioners done end of next week.

Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Matt

Omega General Help / Minor Gremlins Part 1
« on: 12 November 2006, 22:42:14 »
Hi everyone, first few gremlins that need fixing, all of which are electrical.

Number 1(the most important):
I have an intermittent radiator fan fault.  Doesn't always come/stay on when ignition is switched off, and sometimes doesnt come on in heavy traffic.  I'm thinking either faulty thermostat or some dodgy wire somewhere.  Tried pulling off and cleaning and reattched  the 2 sensors attatched to it, the one under the big radiator hose and the one under under the black round thing that sits above the fan.  Anyother ideas??  The fan on the ECU box doesnt come on either.   Fan works fine when it does work.

Number 2:
My MID range calculator doesnt reduce with the tank level, it always assumes tank is full.  I dont think this MID is origonal to the car as it insists I have an auto box fault, but I dont have an auto.

Number 3:
Where teh hell is my aerial?  I have no airial on the car, not even a mount for one and no holes in the roof where there ever was one.  Its the original stereo with 6 cd changer, where would the wiring come out normally?  I dont to start taking things apart before I know where to look.  The aerial lead is still plugged in to the head, where would the other end be??

More minor faults to come soon..

Thanks in advance

Newbie Welcome Area / New member...
« on: 02 November 2006, 01:01:48 »
Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member here, had my Omega for 2 weeks and I am loving it.  £650 off ebay for a M-reg 2.5 V6 CD Estate with manual box.  No bad price for so much car. Shes done 183000 miles, but has a service history that barely fits in the boot and it goes like dream.  Has  the facelift headlights fitted so when I drive to work in the early mornings it like having a pair of lighthouse's stuck to the front of the car.  Everything works bar 2 minor electrical niggles which i'm sure I can help with here. Been reading all your forums and seems like a friendly place with helpful people, unlike some BMW forums where they cry if you say you actually drive car.  Yes sorry, I do like BMW's, is that allowed here???  :-/ Only the old ones though, anything after 1990 doesnt do it for me.

Anyway, these are my babies...

And I'll see you all round here...

Matt

Passed my test in 1997, in 9 years I've had:

Learnt on my mums D reg 1.6 Belmont.  This car lasted nearly 15 years with minimum maintinance only failed to start once in taht time, a lovley car.

L 709 SFB reg 1.0 lt Fiat Uno, first car, not bad for cheap little car but being Fiat repair bills were hidious.  This one survived me to move on to a new owner.

G 509 KWD  E30 BMW 316i.  My first BMW and first rear wheel drive car.  A beautiful machine, spent thousands on it but blew the engine.  Eventually scrapped. Converted me to a BMW Driver.

W 495 SAC 1.8 Ford Focus Zetec with climate pack.  Lovley car, but lost so much money on it I will never buy new again.  This one survived.

Y reg Vx Astra 2.0 turbo deisel.  Had it one hour before it broke down.  NEVER EVER GO TO CARCRAFT WEST MIDLANDS!!! They are a bunch of crooks.

Got the focus back.

D 498 FYP  BMW 635CSi, £1300 ebay bargain, Sold my focus to help pay for this to be done.  http://www.qvrefurb.co.uk/gallery_car.asp?carId=64&ListType=2

Shes sick at the moment, needs a new head gasket after catastrophic coolant leak.  2 months after I had a new head gasket fitted.  Sigh.

K 916 XGS  2.0 CD Carlton Estate, lovely car, indestructible engine, topped the ton with only 2 cylinders and no exhaust manifold.    Used to much fuel but this one survived me.

M reg Laguna 2.2 Diesel.  Had it one month before the gearbox lunched itself.  Scrapped.

And of course.

M 535 SWE 2.5 V6 CD Estate.  nice to be back in a big Vauxhall.  Fingers crossed this might survive a while.

Next car to be either ALPINA B10 Bi-Turbo or a Lotus Carlton, Identical performance, identical used prices, both as rare as each other. Will be a tough choice if I ever get hte money.  Go to www.mcp-motorsport.co.uk if you want a look, they have one of each.
