Omega General Help / Re: evil...passenger manifold gasket!
« on: 15 January 2009, 12:51:53 »
...just a thought...could this be why even after cleaning the throttle assembly and breathers, and replacing the ISCV, the engine still revs at 1000RPM?  it's never wanted to come down from that!  I'll have a check for the leaking manifold stuff, but any ideas as to how much it would be to get it fixed at a local trustworthy garage?
FT.

thanks for the replies.  the hydraulic lifter, what is it?  should I be overly concerned or put up with it?  What kind of damage can a blowing manifold gasket do if not fixed?  FT.

Hi all, just noted the above comment  by ElitePete...my 2.0 16v'96 engine 'ticks' every time I start it from cold.  It only disappears after it starts to warm up.  It's very annoying, but once it goes away the car sounds great.  My question is...is it causing any damage to the engine or exhaust components, i.e. should it be rectified as soon as!?  I did start a thread with 'clanking' in the title, but reading this thread and seeing 'tick' made me think twice and agree that my engine is ticking and not clanking.  I have changed the oil and checked it's level after driving a few hundred miles.  Thanks very much.

Omega General Help / Re: Central locking releasing

Ignore this post...I've put it on the wrong thread!!!! ;D :D

It's certainly not that...the fob just doesn't unlock or lock the car up after a bit.  Think I'm just going to have to buy a new key fob and get re-programmed.  But to be honese, sick and tired of having to fork out cash to get the car fixed.  Think I've bought a dodgy one really and just going to keep it ticking over for as long as possible!  I'm now thinking that the manifold gasket is going, or gone, I know the back box needs changing...not sure of middle section...and just waiting for my DIY job on the rocker gasket to go up in smoke!  Arrr!  Must say, i did the rocker gasket from the threads on here and found it quite easy.

Ok...I know my remote is a two-buttoned Bosch RK 129 433.92 Mhz as per the following ebay listing numbered  - 370113179107 - However, the item looks the same and has the same above info on it, but in the small print it says to make sure the model of the car matches what they are selling.  Can anyone tell me if this would do?  I've got the car pass thingy so pretty hopeful.

Thanks, FT.

Am I just looking for spare keys with a view to reprogramming them?  Just looking on ebay now and found loads of keys, look different from mine...are they 'blank' keys?

Just found this one ... item no. 170291099574.  I know from previous posts that you're not too far from me.  Can you reprogramme?

Omega General Help / Central Locking - Intermittent Fault
« on: 06 January 2009, 10:37:55 »
Hi all,

My key fob works for a bit after recoding with the ignition then doesn't.

1.  Placed key in ignition, turned it, pressed the lock button 'til the central locking did their thing.
2.  Key fob then locks/unlocks the car for a bit.
3.  Less than an hour later the central locking doesn't work.
4.  The key itself works as it locks/unlocks all doors.
5.  All locks work when raised/lowered from within the car.
6.  Both red and green lights work when either button is pressed.
7.  I have changed the battery recently.
8.  The back cover is loose and currently held on by rubber bands!  However, even with the bands off the lights still work so don't think it's a battery connection problem.
9.  If it is key fob problem Vauxhall have quoted £85 for a new one including labour and VAT.

Any ideas?  My knowledge of car electrics is lacking, but the above symptoms seem to suggest that it might be a quick fix!  Hopefully...

Thanks,

FT.

Need a bit of a pointer with the following two -

1.  "...the nut holding the wiring harness onto the front of the cam cover..."

2.  "...breather pipe from the cam cover..."

Where's/What's the wiring harness?

Are the breather pipe's to the left of the engine, if standing in front of the engine, one small one slightly larger, connected to the throttle assembly?

When I order the parts from Vauxhall, do they come in a kit?

How do I clean the oil that's currently sitting in the chamber or will it burn out once the gasket's been replaced?

Sorry for such daft questions, but not mechanically minded!

Omega General Help / Oil on sparkplugs...
« on: 13 December 2008, 17:58:31 »
Hi again,

Right, I've changed the oil, which apparently was very black and gunky.  New filter installed too.  This has made a very big difference in smoothness and quietness.  However, I later checked the sparkplugs on 09/12/08 and found them smeared in oil.  I've cleaned them and the engine sounds even better. However, I've just taken them out again to check whether it was just oil spilt by the garage as they were changing it or whether it was something else and...

1.  All plugs smeared in oil
2.  Plugs 1 & 2 (as if looking from front of engine to the rear) are far less smeared than 3 & 4.
3.  Plug 3 is heavily smeared
4.  Plug 4 is completely covered and when you look down the chamber you can see oil flooded at the bottom.  This isn't the case for chambers 1 to 3.

I don't believe it's the head gasket going as the oil was black, not mayonaise-ish.  Is it a rocker gasket?  By the way, the revs have now dropped below 1000RPM and the engine is now idling at about 900 to 950 RPM.  What should it be normally?

Any ideas would be greatful.  Thanks, FT.
