Thanks all for replies. really appreciate the knowledge / experience you guys have, but the horror stories around this issue sounds like I've really bought a 'Pig in a Poke'.

Other forums I've looked at have stories of arms being replaced along with calipers / hoses etc and still got the problem.

From these previous experiences I am reading and as it's an 'R reg', it really sounds like I could spend loads just to not improve things. 'Keep you posted.

Thanks Malcolm

Started a thread a couple of days ago - http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1236158124

Car been at local garage all week after 4 wheel alignment done to hopefully resolve tyre wear. They have given up after lots of investigation and reading various forums where threads say virtually everything has been replaced but not solved the issue. Has anyone got the answer to this problem? Braking, the car pulls violently to right and steerin gwas going to left.

I've seen that this seems quite a common fault from various sources on Web but no real conclusion or resolution of this issue.

It's totally unsafe to drive - help please.

Malcolm

Thanks,

I believe that was their first suspicion after the four wheel alignment.

Thanks, I believe that they had checked them as they stated that it had been replaced - suggesting it had been done with a pattern part that may be sub-standard.

Hi,

got the Omega and it seemed to be OK, other than 'grabbing' in roundabouts etc,  until the wife slipped off a country road in bad weather. The steering had a wobble at 45ish. Didn't get tracking looked at until it had rubbed inner edge off n/s tyre very quickly.

After local garage had done 4 wheel allignment, when applying brakes, it pulls to off-side but steering wheel goes to near-side. Anyway, garage says 'the car has had a new o/s swinging arm' done before we got it. (I also ound one wheel had a flat edge on inner side which was MOT failure) They have had it in a couple of days now and cannot see anything wrong and are baffled.

Anyone any suggestions as I can see I'll be getting it back without it being resolved. The gararge did call yesterday to confirm OK to change front flexible brake hoses - just to eliminate I assume.

Thanks
Malcolm

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5 CDX Auto - Oil Lack warning again
« on: 21 November 2008, 10:53:03 »
Hi,
sorry forgot the TD in title, a tractor.

There is no useage of oil. The oil level before I changed it was on the top mark on dipstick. After changing oil & filter the 'Oil lack' warning still comes on frequently. It and the check light do go out. Thinking that the light may have gone out when on a decent, braking or tight l/h turn, I put an extra 0.3 litres of oil in - slightly above top dipstick mark, but still 'oil lack' warning.

I just can't understand why, as oil level is up, the oil lack warning shows. The car was standing for a year before I got it. I assume that the sender is a float in the sump, or is it some pressure sensor - possibly indicative of a duff pump or blocked oil way. Anyone any ideas?

Omega General Help / 2.5 CDX Auto - Oil Lack warning again
« on: 19 November 2008, 19:58:47 »
Hi,
after my last post on this subject, even though the old oil level was on the top mark on dipstick, I also got an 'OIL LEVEL' warning displayed for a short duration.

I have changed oil and filter but am still getting the 'Oil Lack' warning frequently, even after putting in an extra 0.3l.

Having got two different warnings - Oil Lack & Oil Level, surely they must come from different 'senders'. The owners manual confirms engine oil for both, so have I got a blocked oil way or breather, a duff pump?

From previous experience, the red oil warning light is controlled by a pressure switch and operates at some 10 - 15 psi. What sensors control operation of these other two warnings.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Oil Filter Cap - 2.5TD CDX
« on: 12 November 2008, 14:09:17 »
That's the link I was following. The one shown is similar as I had supplied but is 20mm less diameter than the one ftted. As in the link, the filter fits inside the cap and the centre piece extends through the filter. The filter is slightly larger diameter than the cap and the length of centre piece appears short.

Omega General Help / Oil Filter Cap - 2.5TD CDX
« on: 12 November 2008, 11:40:51 »
H,
just been to VX for 2nd attempt at getting the oil filter cap for car as original one has the hex head sheared off, and yet again it's wrong one. I was originally supplied with a V0093171524 which was about 20mm diameter smaller than fitted but did have the hex head on top. I've just been down to collect the newly ordered part and this one appeared to be a larger diameter one than fitted but it also has a bolt hole in centre. The two parts guys came out to have a look for themselves but told me that it was a bit of a guessing game with the Omegas - changes in engines, oh and this is just a BMW engine that they bunged in.
Not had vehicle long so not got familiarity with it yet. Does any one have the correct VX part number that I require, just in case it's not 3rd time lucky.
From visiting two VX dealers since my recent purchase, it appears that most parts are no longer stocked and have a two day lead time.
Should I be going to BMW for this part as it certainly has got VX stretched?

Thanks Malcolm

Thanks for that guys. Not being complacent about such a warning but I feel better with some of you saying it does happen for no apparent reason. Just to confirm it, the old oil level is up to the top mark on dipstick. I'll keep my eye on it once I've done a service.

Thanks for that.
Yes checked level again this morning and it's OK. Definately requires changing though.
As far as warning lights go, I've always been led to believe that the warning light will go out at 10 - 15psi which ain't very much for oil pressure. I remember a meter on some vehicle I had showed 40 -60 psi normal running.
I know if I park my Xantia on a steep car park, the low oil light flashes until I'm on less incline.
As you say, yours does show occassionally, I'll see how it goes after oil change.

Thanks

Hi,
got the recently aquired car through MOT ok. Hex head on oil filter was sheared off so got new VX part. At weekend went to do service but realised before I started that the cap was too small. Now in hand awaiting replacement part to do oil change.
So had a steady 80 mile visit yesterday. When going round a roundabout close to arriving home, the 'OIL LACK' warning was displayed for a while then went out. It reappeared just before arriving home. After a while checked oil level which is OK.

Not using it until I've got the new oil filter cap and oil changed so old oil may be the issue. Has anyone out there any experience of this display? Could it be that some other issue, other than old oil, like a dodgy oil pump etc. could be the root issue?

Omega General Help / Re: Anti-theft wheel bolt locked
« on: 22 October 2008, 19:27:18 »
Hi, just some feedback / advice if anyone else has this issue.
Used an 'easy out' in the centre hole in siezed lock bolt and it came out OK without damage to key holes.

The three key holes were a little damaged by previous owner/s but the key still works OK. Copper slipped before refitting. Will have to have a go at getting the other sheared one out sometime.

Thanks

Thanks for that. Just as I thought - steel/ali fusion, had various bits from roof racks to brake calipers with same problems. As you say, have to drill it out as plus gas wont shift it.

Omega General Help / Anti-theft wheel bolt locked
« on: 17 October 2008, 16:00:15 »
Hi, got some Brake Pad warning sensors - earlier post. The driver's side wheel does not have a hub cap, the security bolt is sheared off. The near side bolt does not want to come out with the supplied tool. I have applied plus gas and tapped the bolt but it wont budge. The rear ones are OK, is this a common problem? Is there a any advice on this one? Taking that I can the sheared bolt out of o/s wheel, are these hub caps and screws supplied other than GM?

Thanks
Malcolm
