Have you checked the breather pipes are clear of crud? :-?
Hi

I de-cruded the pipes when I replaced the rocker cover gasket a few weeks ago - but thanks for the thought.
New cam sensor arrived today, fitted, no more warning light and car burbles nicely.

Part looks genuine (OK so that's no guarantee given the counterfeiting abilities around these days) - the guy uses an Ebay ID of astra.warehouse

Replace the cam sensor with genuine part

Hi

I've just ordered a new cam sensor (Fleabay) (and it's a genuine one :) )

I'll keep you posted.

Any ideas about the 0130 error?

Hi all
I have a 1999 Omega with the 2.0 Litre 16v engine & auto box.

Starting yesterday the EML comes on within a few minutes of starting and the engine revs vary (can cut out entirely when cold when you place it in 'D')

Sounds kind of like a missfire a 'chuntering' sound

Paperclip is giving me 0130 and 0340 (o2 sensor  and CRM sensor)

Plugs/leads fairly new, recent cam cover gasket change (few weeks ago) other than that no recent work done.

Anybody had this before and can shed some light?
(Replace crank sensor?)

Thanks

Graeme

Hi - on mine I estimate 30 miles left but if I let the tank drop down do an indicated 15 litres or so and then park on a sideways slope (left hand of the car downhill) it will not start.
I tend to fill up when the tank is around 25 litres.

Omega General Help / Re: MOT Advisory .......
« on: 14 March 2010, 13:37:52 »
Hi
I had similar with my rear pipes - two years ago advisory, one year ago - fail.

I have flaring kit and can work copper pipes but not the steel ones on the Omega, my local independent garage did the pipes for me - £50. They cut the steel pipes just beneath the rear seats, flared the ends there onto a new union joint and then ran a length of copper to the rear calipers from the new joint.

If you are going to keep the car for any length of time then I'd say it's a job worth getting done

Omega General Help / Sourcing & replacing handbrake cable
« on: 26 September 2009, 14:30:50 »
Hi all

'T' reg 2.0 automatic Omega - the cable that connects the handbrake to the adjuster has snapped.

I am having trouble sourcing this part and I was wondering if anybody knows of an online shop I can get one from (simply to save a long journey to the nearest Main Dealer)

Any tips on the actual job - looks to be a total fiddle but not impossible

Hi all
I've just got hold of a July 1999 registered GLS estate with the 2.0l petrol engine and auto box. The car is in reasonable condition, drives fine and (other than a blow somewhere in the exhaust) I have a couple of queries:
1) Engine hunts when idling - the forum suggests the Idle Control Valve is the most likely suspect - any where else I should look
2) The tyres do not 'look' right - they are 195/65/R15 - the handbook states I should have 205/65/R15 - so, should I get them replaced asap with 205 or is it OK to tootle around on the 195's?? (or is the handbook wrong?)

I don't have a picture of the rims but the ones on the car here:

look identical

Thanks

Newbie Welcome Area / Another newbie says 'hi'
« on: 28 October 2008, 18:03:44 »
New guy here....

At the weekend our previous car ate the alternator belt which, in turn, slipped under the cam belt cover, wrapped itself around the cam belt and - bye bye top end. Scrap one Laguna estate and your truly in need of a big estate to act as the family barge.

Quick bit of reading on here, scout around Fleabay and Autotrader and - this morning - picked up an Omega. 1999 (registered on the 2nd July - maybe somebody can tell me why they did not wait 4 weeks to get a 'V' plate on it - first owner was a Fleet Management company so maybe they didn't care). The Omega runs fine with just a few niggles (see my post elsewhere) - it has the GLS trim so not so many bells and whistles but those it does have all work (apart from the front and rear windscreen washers which have a blockage somewhere - daylight and better weather permitting I'll have a shuftie).

Pretty good with the spanners and I fancied something that was fairly easy to work on and has a good deal of support (plenty of that on this forum by the look of things - if only somebody did the same for the Laguna - e.g. to replace the starter motor on the 1.9 DTi you have to take off a gearbox support and the oil feed pipe to the turbo - Mr Haynes does not mention either  >:( If you leave them in situ you are about 2mm short of space to get the new motor in there no matter how you twist and turn it.

So (hopefully - after a bit of tinkering, cam belt and brake checks the Omega will join the rest of the 'fleet' - 1998 Escort Encore (yes - the one with manual window winders) currently runabout for SWMBO and soon to be thrown to the wolves (17 year old Learner Driver - mini-SWMBO), 1989 AWD TL masquerading as a horsebox, 1978 DB 885 Tractor and a 1968 88" Ser 2a Land Rover.

I've not yet had time to really pull around at the Omega - it all looks straight and clean, oily where it should be and the steering/handling is 'tight' Auto box does what it should in all gears plus sports mode - 104,000 miles from new with main dealer up to 76,000 so (touching wood) it'll last as a lot longer than the 18 months we got out of the Laguna.

Cheers

Graeme

p.s. forgot to add - my only previous Vauxhall was a 1983 1.2 litre Nova Saloon (Whoooo!) which I owned from new for a few years - never put a foot wrong but was only doing 5-7,000 miles per annum

None the wiser here - there is no leak from the flexi join, nor around the manifold, down pipe - anywhere. The noise is a deep 'tonk' - just like you would expect from a blowing exhaust. Local garage has now perused it and thinks that it is simply a resonation within the cat itself - so nothing to worry about for the MoT - just kind of noisy when starting

Hi there

it's definately not the top of the cat as I can feel right around it - I'll have a go at lashing soapy water onto the (cold) flexi-join and see if I can spot any bubbles.

Thanks

Graeme

Whhops - what a typo!

It is an Omega - duh-oh me :-)

Yup - the noise is 100% coming from the cat and there are no leaks anywhere - with the car on the ground it is hard to identify and appears to come from the front pipe/manifold junction area - once you get under the car it is easily ID'd as the cat

Hi all

2.0 DOHC 1999 Vectra - only had a few days and today was the first chance to have a look.

I've taken off the heat shield and there is no leaks from the manifold or the downpipe/manifold gasket.

Getting under the beast the sound is coming from the cat! There are no leaks around the cat (felt all the may round it) but there is a resonating sound coming from it - if you hold your hand on it then you can feel the vibartions.

The 'blow' sound is in time with the engine - I'm puzzled as to what this sound could be - any suggestions.

Graeme
