I had same problem during recent cold weather.  Long story, but managed to lock myself out with engine running in the process...     Has been OK since, but need a long term solution before I do something stoopid again.

V6 HG, very, very, very rarely go.

From a recent survey, 100% of my "fleet" is affected...

Silverstone Garage. Always been very good in the past.

Garage has today confirmed not HBV - coolant clearly coming from gasket.    

So thanks for all the offers, but not sure there's much point in a "watch the leak" party on Monday.  I'll be around though if any prospective purchasers are passing and want to take a look...  :-/

so would I.  I'm off to Swindon on monday so possible could meet you.  May be better to meet on the way back as I've got the ex SWMBO with me in the morning.....

almost certainly HBV if you were losing that amount of water via the HG you'd be in deep stuff now.  It will be cheap fix...

I'm getting through several litres of water on a 40 mile round trip.  

Seems to be escaping from rear of engine.  No obvious signs of oil in water or vice versa, but I've been reliably informed it looks like head gasket (and no, my name's not Wayne).

Not a job I fancy myself, and garage labour would probably amount to more than the car's worth - so maybe it's time to pass the car onto someone who would nurse her through her old age?

Facelift MV6 Estate, 155K miles, cambelt done at Xmas by James, niggling lambda sensor warning (which is definitely not lambda sensors) - but otherwise is good shape and well cared for.  Anyone interested?

Done it!  By releasing the cable tray at both ends it can be pushed down sufficiently to get a socket and extension on the bolt.

Thanks Dazzler   - getting a bit dark now, so will give it another go later in the week.  The ICV is held on with rubber bands for now...  :-?

There's some plastic "trunking" in the way - I can easily detach this at the front, but don't know how it's fixed at the back?  If I could get that out of the way I'm sure I could do the job.

Ah - but that's the problem - I'm trying to replace the bracket itself, since the old one has split.  Even more so now that I've hacked part of it away trying to get to the fixing...

How on earth do I get to the ICV bracket to remove it??  Seems to be a E8-ish screw holding it in place - but I can't get a socket on it, and no room to even swing an adjustable spanner...   How much do I nee to remove first?  Is it an engine out job??!?

imho they are an average engineering firm with no real understanding of tuning...

Interesting comment... there are a lot of folks on the vx220.org site that would disagree with that.  But I have no personal knowledge - I prefer to use Thorney in MK, who are a lot closer. They too have their detractors...  :-/

Quick update - sensors are connected OK, but readings are erratic.  Presumably bu66ered by my recent misfire.  2 new ones on order.  

So "open circuit" does not necessarily mean "not there"...   :-?
