Thanks,

I can't clear any of those codes. Which either means my opelscanner is a bit naf or they instantly reappear.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has access to error codes of things other than engine management? I've recently hooked up a cable and software called Opel Scanner to my Omega. Everything is fine on the engine side of things but my Climate Control is showing (--) when switching it off and shows an error code in the software. I also have four error codes on the headlight leveling (despite the fact they do move up and down when triggered via software).

So yeah, I would need to find out what those codes mean if anyone can help me out here :)

Did you check the error code for that light?

Omega General Help / Re: I need coolant on tap...!
« on: 22 January 2012, 19:39:31 »
Hi,

From my recent experience dramatic leaks like that I would rather bet on the radiator leak. You don't necessarily have to have stains on the ground because mine was emptying the reserve tank in about a day or two just by steaming it out while driving
HBV on the other hand took a bit longer for me to spill so much coolant and it was only doing so while the temperature was set to LO (which is rather unlikely in the winter, but if you set it to say 25 it will still leak, but slower).

I don't know if this is a rule but when my HBV was going I could see the steam coming out from under the bonnet so you should be able to test it quite easily by just reving a bit and changing the temperature in your car

Hope this makes sense and I hope it's the HBV (cheapest to fix)

As for the oil cooler - had mine in a poor condition plus both head gaskets were broken. In this condition it would only use about a litre per 800-1000 miles. Would not worry about that.
Cheers!

Corrado1441 - I will give it a go, it is definitely poorly put back together after they replaced the bulbs because one of the temperature displays shows garbage and when I press it hard on the wooden trim - it shows the correct value.

Really glad to hear that a simple dismantling solved quite annoying problems in your car. Should have figured that out myself since I always try to apply that to computers when I fix them and it usually works hehe ;)

Part Number : NIS63073A
 Cost : £88.72 + vat

Done mine in November, was leaking from under the top, right hose (plastic pipe just cracked to pieces). My mate fitted for... 4 pints of beer :D

Hi,

On my recent trip to Poland I averaged 30.7mpg while driving approx 85mph (100+mph in Germany). 2 people in the car plus lots of christmas gifts in the boot. - used 177 ltr
Then on my way back there were very strong winds all over Europe and had a bit more cargo, did not exceed 90mph and got 28.5mpg. - used 185 ltr

I believe that 1100 mile trip is more than representative:)

1998 MV6 Estate with manual gearbox.

PS. 39.2 mpg is my personal best. From Nottingham to Hexham and back, on company's time while being paid per mile lol;) I was doing 50/60mph and hiding behind lorries from time to time to reduce air friction haha ;D

Thanks TheBoy!

I'll say hello to Mark when I stack up some cash next month. Still recouping after Christmas.

In the mean time I will try to clean the matrix if it's not too cold this weekend and see what that does.

Cheers :)

Albs - nope I haven't replaced it yet because I am not really that savvy on doing technical stuff...
I will definitely have a look at that drain because the windscreen gets really hard to de-mist.

Thanks.

What about the other bits...anyone? ;)

Omega General Help / No hot air and (--) on the climate control
« on: 18 January 2012, 23:50:11 »
Hi,

I wonder if you can help me. The heating in my car is almost gone. Noticed it about two winters ago, but now it's hardly possible to sit in the car;) Oh, please apologise for a rather longish post, but I want to give as much details as possible.

Here's the whole story:

I went over to Poland for christmas and so I took my omega to my old man's mate who has a garage (deals only with Vauxhalls and Opels). He's done the usual, fixed some bits and bobs, then he found that my head gaskets were gone so he needed to take half of the engine out etc. I told him about this problem with my heating and that he could perhaps replace the ol' rusty heat exchanger (matrix you call it?). All in all he didn't have time to do that but as we went to check the heating it was blowing super hot air just after he put the engine back together...yeah, for a day before it came back to be barely warm.
Then I went to a car wash and after that all fans went crazy and blew at their max speed even after I switched the engine off and took the key out. Turned out that the car wash flooded my passenger's side and water was leaking for a good hour (as the fans were blowing slower and slower). Few days after that little hickup I noticed that the air-con is not doing anything when I press the ECO button i.e. revs don't go up or down as they used to. Every few engine starts the fans don't switch on at all only until I do the climate control reset (AUTO+OFF). Everytime I switch off the engine I get (--) where the climate temperature should be.

In a nutshell:
1. No difference in air temperature between 19C and HI setting
2. Getting (--) upon switching off the engine - was told that it was because of the difference in the temperature sensor readings and it was supposedly rectified.
3. A lot of water got into my car through under the glovebox (enough to form a puddle) after visiting a car wash and shorted the fan control and set it all to max setting.
The next two issues started happening after the flood
3. Aircon does not respond to ECO button
4. Fans fail to start ocassionaly until Climate Control is reset with AUTO+OFF
5. Once it did not respond to changing the air flow - got stuck on windscreen 'de-mist' until reset
6. Still getting the (--)

1.Replaced radiator in November 2011 (leaked)
2.Head gaskets, oil cooler, hydraulic valve thingies, throttle regenerated, everything sealed properly, new cam belt (decided to leave old pullies), 5w40 full synthetic, Climate Control 'backlight', pollen filter, air filter, oil filter in December 2011
3.Thermostat, water pump, cam belt and all there is to it in December 2010
4.HGV or HBV? in spring 2009 (was leaking when set to HI)

The temp. dial is holding still no matter what (just drove over 1.2k miles), engine running perfectly fine and smooth, did not take any oil since the head gaskets were done, coolant level is steady (which was not the case before the job).

So...what the hell is going on with my climate control god damn it?? :o

I would appreciate any advice but, if at all possible, I would like to perhaps meet one of the local omega gurus to have this looked at. Has anyone got a tech2 in or around Nottingham and would not mind checking this anomaly?

The car is a 1998 3.0 LHD with manual transmission.

Please help...please? ::)

I mostly use Vauxhall parts although HBV was not genuine.

No I haven't, but it has been replaced in 2009. Coolant was leaking whenever I set the climate control to LO.
Do you think it's failing again?

General Melchett - pressure test was done 2 days ago and went fine - sorry, forgot to mention this.

Albs - even if it was replaced only 10 months ago? Genuine Vauxhall part as well.

Omega General Help / Temperature fluctuations in 3.0 v6
« on: 08 October 2011, 18:10:23 »
Hi,

Does anyone know why does my temperature gauge drop suddenly when I'm reving up the engine? As soon as I take my foot off the accelerator it comes back to normal.

For example today: Gear 2, 1500rpm, Temperature:92. I floored it to 6000rpm and within 5-10 seconds temperature dropped to the point a gauge was lying flat. After another 10 seconds it came back to 92 Celsius.
I was able to recreate this situation numerous times. Does that with heating set to HI as well as set to LO and a few in between, doesn't matter if I'm driving or standing still.

Thermostate was replaced in December 2010 and so was the water pump with a new timing belt set.

This car had a problem with coolant disappearing for many years, approx 1 litre per 1500miles, but recently it loses 1 litre every 2-3 days regardless of the mileage. I found a small crack in the radiator, but I don't know how much is that related to temperature jumps?

Please don't tell me the car is dying ???

Omega General Help / Changing the interior.

Hi!
I have a complex problem to overcome and need some advice please :)
I have a LHD Opel Omega with black leather non memory electric heated(front) seats. I would like to make a hybrid and fit cream leather memory seats front and back and also change the door cards and glovebox 'door' from a RHD Vauxhall so it looks like this:
http://www.polskajazda.pl/Samochody/Opel/Omega/Galeria/62821,506801
http://www.polskajazda.pl/Samochody/Opel/Omega/Galeria/62821,506799
http://www.polskajazda.pl/Samochody/Opel/Omega/Galeria/62821,506800

For best problem description I have posted 3 pictures of the donor here:
http://www.illustrator.pl/mig/img_0006.jpg
http://www.illustrator.pl/mig/img_0007.jpg
http://www.illustrator.pl/mig/img_0009.jpg

You can see numbers from 1 to 5 in there, and the questions are:

a) No.1 remains black. Can I buy no.5 part and gloveboxes in no.2's colour anywhere - if not, I'm going for gray leather. Donor has them in that strange brownish colour.
b) Swapping front seats will mean that memory one will be on the passenger's side. Is it possible to swap the controller to the other side? Obvious problem is no.4 but what about the cables etc.
c) My rear seats are not heated. Cream ones are. Are all relevant connections present in my car or I have to drag the entire instalation from somewhere else?

Another thing is the guy wants about [ch321]480 for everything with fitting. For those who have the cream leather - is it worth it?

Cheers,
Pawel.
