I've just had the same problem with mine. At first the key was intermittently jamming in the ignition and refusing to turn until i'd wiggled it about for ten minutes or so until eventually it packed in full stop and just would not turn at all. Popped into my local dixons parts counter and paid £20 for a new barrel and pair of keys, and was told to run a drill down the ignition barrel to pop it out of the car and this one should just slide straight in, and then said that the immobilizer chip will want swapping into the new key and all will work fine.
Took the drill to the ignition barrel and must have gone through half a dozen drill bits as they all kept snagging inside the barrel and snapping clean in half.
After spitting the dummy out i decided to just rag the ignition barrel to bits and eventually got it out and put the new one straight in - no problems.
THEN, after swapping the immobiliser chip into the new key it simply would not have it at all.
Got on the phone to vaux and they said id have to bring the car in so they can re-programme it. This meant having to get my car recovered and taken down as it wouldnt start, costing me £50 (which was surprisingly cheap) and then a further £150 as it turned out the immobilizer transponder in the car was not even registered to my vehicle so they had to put a new one of these in.
Grand Total = £220
Plus the ballache of not having a car all week as deliveries to vaux were v slow because of the snow.

... is quite frankly pants. It took me 15 minutes yesterday to move the car from in front of the house, the traction control was killing the power on the engine to the point that it nearly stalled and the 'ice' mode on the gearbox didn't help much.
In the end, to get it moved I had to rev the arse off it with the traction turned off with the rear wheels spinning like a chav on Tescos car park.
Was quite annoying yet satisfying to have the speedo up to 160 at a walking pace!
Yep! I discovered this too the other day, pulled into pub carpark to pick mate up then sat for about 5 minutes just spinning the wheels trying to "rock" the car back and forth to eventuall get over the ice! Anyway werent getting anywhere so we jst got out and shoved it, worked a treat!

Quite new to this site... in fact quite new to omegas as well for that matter but seeing as i have recently got mine i thought this seemed like a good place to begin...
Anyways managed to pick up a real bargain on ebay for this one!
£600 for a P ('96) Omega Tourer 2.5 V6, only 100k on the clock in 12yrs, full history, full tax, and near enough full MOT... Also came with nice little carbon fibre trim inserts around the gear stick, and in the doorcards, and i found a carbon fibre heating console as well on ebay so about to put that in.
If anyone has any advice or knows of anything to watch out for on this particular model then that would be much appreciated! From reading through the site it seems that popular upgrades are getting it chipped and getting uprated camshafts...
Main use for this car (as with most omegas i guess) is simply cruising up and down the M1 or such like. Anyone able to recommend somewhere i can get some new brakes, ie: drilled, grooved, vented discs and performance pads... and also new set of suspension.
The only current issue with the car is a knocking sound coming from the front axle when going over speed bumps, kerbs, etc... I was told when buying the car that this is the "anti roll bar linkages" so any tips for solving this?
Anyway cheers for reading, will hopefully be getting more involved on the forum within the near future.
