I recently had a problem with the 'selector switch' - only 3 gears, lumpy gearchanges, poor getaway.  No switch available in UK.  Got one from the US for £38.  Any help?

I'm sure this would  be very helpful to myself and others on here who are also having  this problem with there autobox. Could you please put up a link or PM me the details of this company. Ta very much

The only code I know of  was 0704.  I think that  is what it was before  it was cleared by my local mot centre. But He thought It was connected to the auto selector switch problem I have and still need to sort

Autobox determines input speed via the engine RPM, output speed is determined via aforementioned sensor. If box is in incorrect gear dependent on these values the box ecu will raise a code

So if the sensor was knackered  the car would pull away as if it had a 10 ton weight on the back of it ( Sorry if this is like pulling teeth for ya , but I just wanna be sure I am getting the right part  to sort my auto problem)

All sorted  and thanks chaps for the advice. It was the oil cooler plate that was the problem. It looks like the oil cooler has been changed before my ownership and not been done very well at all ( I know that's rich coming from me  ) The sealant was very sparse  and in a very poor state indeed...... hence the reason for the  very quick dumping of water.

Something  I also learnt  today was , that the engine needs to be running to cure this sealant  as I left it to cure by itself before filling the expansion tank. It started to dribble out again at the same points as this morning , but once a few chosen  words had been said , with the standard door slamming  of the drivers door, I started her up and after a very short time the dripping stopped under the car. Hence a now happy sky blue. Ta  again chaps

Daft question time   I have found the leak, and it seems to be coming from the gasket around the oil cooler plate. now do I repair as a oil cooler repair with all the gaskets and sealant or can I just replace the oil cooler one with sealant ??

Sorry,  I should have also said that  the  water was coming out as clean water from  the top up and could only fill up the expansion tank.  I will check the rad area too . Thanks Al

 Just got home and noticed  that my coolant  has dumped itself on the floor. It is running down  from just behind  the oil sump and a little further back on the underneath . I have tried to refill it  but even with the engine off  it is still  ending up on the floor. The HBV seems ok and dry to touch but should I be looking at the coolant bridge area , as I have read else where this could be where my problem is ?

One other quick thing, that I noticed was I had also left a trail of water from the direction that I had been driving .

UPDATE, UPDATE... Don't worry, there wont be another one going to the big crusher in some scrapyard very soon  as after a small trip over to our friend in Heathrow, the  crank sensor he gave me did the trick and we are now back up and running.

I still need to do the auto selector switch, But As I have said , I have no confidence in my self in doing this myself , as I don't or cant grasp what needs to be done from the guide. So if anybody local wants to spoon feed me the info while they drink a nice cup of tea and get some beer tokens as well  , while I'm  getting dirty then please contact me and name ya price. I will also drive to you so if you want you cant stand there in ya slippers if ya want.
