the filter is rarely changed as its inside the box itself, the g/box switch is an easy job & its situated on the nearside bolted to the box, its held by 2x10mm bolts & the 16mm nut on the selector shaft. :y

So do you reckon this is likely to be the problem???

Anyone got a part number for me, and has anyone got any idea on how much one will be from Vauxhall??? If this is a common fault I suppose were best off buying new???

Does it need going on a computer after for setting up or is it just a straight swap and away we go job???  :y

:'( Sorted te rocker cover leak thanks to the guide on here and a pair of Vectra covers . . .

Now the old chaps T reg 2.5V6 Omega has a gearbox fault.
Every now and then, it comes up with autobox fault on the display on the dash. And wont drive in D.

It will however still go in R, 1, 2, 3 . . .  ;) or switching the engine off and starting it back up again normally sorts it . . .

Is this likely to be the gear selector switch???
Is it a diy job or has it gotta go in somewhere???

Question when was last fluid and filter change?
Has it been done!

Check fluid level - is in maintenance section http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152783586

Do all the LEDS light up on the shifter if so possibly just dirty selector switch which can be cleaned HTH.

Regarding the filter, the old chaps had it a good 6 years and we've never changed the filter  :'(

Is there a how to on where is the switch located???

I will ask about all the leds lighting up?

I take it if the D dont light up, it wont drive???

Thanks for the help  :y

One of the small breather pipes connects to a brass coloured 'nipple' on the breather assembly (this on the rear of the drivers side cylinder bank). Clean this nipple with a paper clip or similar size bit of stiff wire.

Remove the other tubers and wrap some cloth round a straightend metal coat hanger and give them a pull through. WD40 is a good cleaning agent for this.

I have never removed the breather box of the cylinder block though.

The black sealant is RTV silicone sealant. You have approx 5 to 10 mins to get the cover and gasket in place before it cures.

Omega General Help / 2.5 V6 breather pipes
« on: 13 December 2008, 10:04:02 »
Anyone got any pics of the breather system set up on a Omega V6???

I've got the job of changing the rocker covers plus gaskets on the old chaps T-reg 2.5 V6 Auto :(

Its only done just over 60K and is mint... the smell of burning oil is very off putting though and I really need to sort this problem once and for all now...

I've had it apart twice now, once with just new gaskets, second time with sealer added....

Now third and final time... new rocker covers, gaskets and sealer...
( Still debating on buying new covers from Vauxhall at £178 quid or fitting Vectra metal covers??? )  ::)

While its apart been told to make sure the breather system is cleared out...
I know the 4 pipes at the back of the engine are part of it... They go off into a bigger breather pipe... But where does it go from the back of the engine, and is there anymore pipes I need to clear out???  :y
