Omega General Help / rattly lifters?

right, situation is that the original head ( 2000 2.0 16v ) was sent for skimming and checking after head gasket failed for the 3rd time, got a call saying it was cracked through the inlet manifold side so managed to ebay, a 1999 vectra head( part nos match but no 2.0 2.2 cast on side) with 65k on clock. head arrived and was bolted on new gasket and bolts. moment of truth arrived and fired it up...somewhere between a rattle and a thwack noise appeared, ran on fast idle to see if it just needed a nice long oil pressure build up.. but no. pissed off shut bonnet went inside and contemplated ringing scrap man to collect ( which is were i stupidly sent the complete old head)
nothing better to do today so gave it a last go. took out camshafts and low and behold 2 of the exhaust lifters were sat lower than the rest, as in the others bounced back when pressed but these were stuck down, put the in a bowl of oil and pumped the piston inside but they just didnt pressure up just slid in and out very easy not like the others that kept there pressure. am thinking that i have the problem just wanted to see if anyone can give a second opinion before i go pissing anymore pennies up the wall ( cos it needs a windscreen as well and then moting as its been sorn for last 18 months) any help/ advice would be grately received. cheers chris.

Omega General Help / Re: blown head gasket again!!

didnt overheat as it went about quater of mile from home but i suspect it wasn't the first time it had happened cos 3 exhaust studs were missing when i first took it apart. had head checked for warping it appeared fine but now its gone again i think its time for a skim to make sure. its the rattling i cant quite get, either like you say overheated and warped a valve etc or other theory was oil was slowly getting starved to a lifter through a glob oy mayo in channels. might just go for a new head or engine. sick of takin it apart now

Omega General Help / blown head gasket again!!
« on: 14 February 2010, 13:22:49 »
now becoming a reoccuring problem but im refusing to let it beat me and die. ive had this miggy two and a half years and last feb the head gasket decided it had had enough of life and gave up. so head off and new gasket fitted and all was well apart from it now rattles on top when it gets warm ( valves or lifters?) all went well for a month then same again. so off again new gasket, bolts etc and rebuilt. once again quiet as a mouse when cold but after a couple of miles the rattle comes back. to celebrate its anniversary of 1st failure it has a major party and goes big time. pressurised water and burning oil like a greedy diesel resulting in localised fog on my driveway and sprayed oil from exhaust up the front of garage door. anyone got any idea why gaskets keep blowing and why this rattle has appeared. all bolts were torqued up to correct settings everytime it was fixed.... new head a better option???  :-/

Omega General Help / heater behaving strange.
« on: 17 December 2008, 22:58:42 »
I m having some strange going ons with my heater. it blows cold until i speed up at whatever speed. within a couple of seconds of accelerating its red hot but then dies off when i ease of the throttle. Im putting it down to a possible vac pipe fault on or to hbv. strange thing is if i rev it when in motion it stays cold, but as soon as i let the clutch back out the heat comes blasting through the vents. the cars temp gauge is doing what it should and the climate control and air con controls are working fine ( tested by turning it to LO and worked it up through to HI whilst in motion.)
had the car a year and think that its had the head off before me getting it cos i had to reconnect a couple of vac pipes back on near the brake cylinder but found another one running across the scuttle panel that was just sat there. take it this connects to the bulkhead grommit but not sure where the other end goes( its got a plastic bulb?or filter on one end and a good length of pipe) does it connect to pipe near the battery/ power steering bottle? if anyone can help i would be greatful cos it bloody freezing and im sick of blipping the throttle to get some heat. cheers.
