Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: No fog lights
« on: 16 November 2008, 19:55:32 »
Have you got a multi-meter / volt-meter to check if you have current?

Sounds silly, as you will me not be so silly, but, are you clicking the correct switch (front fogs = no light on dash while working, rear fogs = light on dash when working).

Also...do you have the headlights on & the engine running?
I think you need the headlights on before the rear fogs work.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I am a cheapskate and wanted to share this with you.

My 'new' Omega has the CDC SAFE issue - everything (Tape & tuner) works, but the CD didn't.

I am glad to say, if you live in West Yorkshire, there's an easy solution: http://www.admcaraudio.co.uk/
I took my CCR2006 head unit out and gave it to him, 5 minutes later he gave it back to me! Bingo, it works!

How much...just £10.

So good, easy and pleasant, I felt I had to tell others about it.

Speak to Paul @ ADM Car Audio.

Omega General Help / Re: Misting Windscreen - any further guidance
« on: 22 February 2009, 20:57:09 »
Thanks for the replies.

I had the same issue with my last Omega; solved by clearing the bonnet drain holes and replacing the pollen filter. Yes, I let it dry for 2 weeks before fitting the new pollen filter - which is still dry & clean.

So I did the same with this Omega; but she still mists up, all the vents are clear, including the one in the boot (where the CD changer can be). The carpets are all dry, inc the passenger footwell...

AC always clears it in seconds, but if I try any heat on ECO mode it mists-up [badly] inside of 30 seconds, always.
This happens throughout 2 mile or 200 mile journeys, whether the engine is cold or hot.

*Pollen filter is clean as a whistle & dry, as are the bonnet/windscreen drain holes*

I've cleaned all the windows, with alchohol based cleaners and Duraglit (Silver polish wadding) as it's a very mild abrasive that eats grime - clean as a whistle.

The fault, I believe has to lie in the heating system, could it be the heating matrix be leaking, gently into heating system, but I am by-passing it [the leak] when using the AC - daft statement I know, but I am clutching at straws now.

As a desparate attempt at a fix, I have turned to a 2nd-hand car salesman's solution to reduce damp - put some cat littler in a vacuum bag and put it under the drivers seat.
But all that has proved is that I have very little damp in the car!

Omega General Help / Misting Windscreen - any further guidance
« on: 22 February 2009, 10:09:48 »
My windcreen mists-up (in 5-45 seconds) when using the econ heating.

I have cleared out both bonnet holes (one was blocked, I used a jet wash to clear it), they run clear and changed the pollen filter (still dry) - all done some 4 months ago.

There's no water in passenger footwell (or the CD changer pocket),  or anywhere else.

Since I got this one I have had to use the AC constantly to get any heat and still see!

She's not losing water or oil.

What am I missing? She's costing a fortune to run!

Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Brad Pad Warning Light...safe for a journey?
« on: 22 February 2009, 09:58:08 »
Thank you.

I managed to squeeze 500 miles (small journeys) out of the old pads, then replaced pads, discs & the sensors - all warnings cleared now.

Much appreciated.

Was going to have to take the wife's car - it feels like a Smart car when loaded with the family!

Thanks and a very Happy New Year to you all.

Omega General Help / Brad Pad Warning Light...safe for a journey?
« on: 28 December 2008, 10:06:21 »
I am planning [today] to go on a 200 mile round trip.
The Brake Pad warning light comes on when I switch the engine off, just started doing that.

Will I end up destroying disc, or will it be safe for a gentle 200 mile round trip?

TIA

Omega General Help / Correct Elite Tyres - 235/45 R17 ?
« on: 17 November 2008, 09:34:38 »
--Just bought a second-hand 2001 Elite --

It has the 17 inch Elite alloy wheels.

The current tyres are 235/45 R17 97W tyres.
But should it not have 205/65 ?

On another note - the car has cronic (visible to the naked eye) negative camber (same on both front wheels) - do I need to replace the suspension or wishbones?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Facelift - model differences
« on: 30 October 2008, 19:19:01 »
I am/was looking for a 2.6V6 CDX, but, after seeing too many dodgy motors I may be looking for a facelift CD model (2001+).

Can anyone tell me the differences between the CD and the CDX model?

Thanks,
HotShot

PS - as of today, I can now add "crashed & badly repaired" to my list of ropey meggys found - do I have a magnet for these? 5 & counting!

"Hi
We took this car in part exchange which was given with the service book we belived the mileage was correct. We had carried a hpi check on: www.mycarcheck.com which is clear did not include mileage info....

Many Thanks"

That's funny...

I have dealt with one bloke, it was his house (kids new him as Dad!). He appeared on the phone and in person to have some mild difficulty in understanding English, to the degree that he couldn't string a perfect written sentance together.

But somehow he has managed perfect grammar! The mist is rising and I am seeing how close I got to being conned in more ways than one.

EDIT: forgot to quote

Newbie Welcome Area / Clocked Car for sale - can I report it here?
« on: 23 October 2008, 22:07:13 »
I was about to buy a car from a private seller.

They showed me the mycarcheck.com paperwork, but I though it could be played with or forged, so I thought I would double check it.

Yep...the 66,000 mile 53 reg 2.6CDX was too good to be true - actually done over 110,000!

Am I allowed to post the registration to ensure others don't fall fowl of this car?

I will keep looking...anyone got a <65,000 2.6CDX of 2002-2003 year?!

Newbie Welcome Area / I wish I could post in the WANTED section...
« on: 24 October 2008, 10:58:21 »
...I am a newbie to this forum, but I am looking for my second Omega...

The missus forced me to go car shopping last weekend -  windscreen cracked, 4 new tyres, breathers blocked - beyond economic repair.

So after 3 hours in the rain, I proved our options: £2k-£3k on a babe of an Omega (2002-2003, with <80k) or £8,000 on AN Other brand!

Better the enermy you know - but trying to find our next Omega is a challenge.

Thus I'd love to post to the Wanted section, but I cannot  :'(

Anyone wants to PM me, please feel free - looking for:
2002-2003 2.6V6 CDX,
<80,000 miles
No [external] rust - the missus demanded that this time!

Thank you for all your help.
