Thanks for that Vamps, the cam sensor was one of my original thoughts but due to the timing belt being recently done I was swayed to that probability.
Had a further look earlier and it looks like the garage did a rush job putting the wiring loom and connecters back so they've more than likely damaged it on replacement
I'll take it out at first light and see if its been fitted correctly, its more than likely been over tightened.
Your advice is very much appreciated, cheers. :y

Hi Guffer, its crap on tickover in effect as the whole car vibrates at a standstill, not severe but damn noticeable.Under accelleration and especially in sport mode its fine while you're putting the power down but as soon as you let off the gas (no pun intended guffer) ; D its spluttery again. And on the motorway once the auto decides to stay in top gear its bad then aswell unless you press sport or drop to no 3 and it runs better. It likes the high revs and hates the lows and tickover. Flummoxed me,I've had 3 Omega's and never come across this. Possible Cam Sensor? The oil was thick black when I drained it so the cam,and crank sensors are both going to be coated!! I'll go have a look now the nosy neighbours have gone in!! Can't be doing with the simpletons who always manage to delay your work with nonsense >:( :y

Is it running rough or is it missing?  Could be the DIS pack?
Hi,I thought that and had a good look when I replaced the wiper motor and linkage and it seemed like new but even so you could be right. Cheers

Hi all,I've just bought a W Reg 2.5V6 CD and after doing all the regular servicing ie changed plugs, leads, oil change, flushed coolant, cleaned plenum and breathers, air filter and new fuel filter its still running slightly rough.
I bought it for 400 squid 72000 miles, all mot's present and its immaculate, even the aircon works.
The guy I bought it off had recently spent 800 on getting the timing belt and rocker gaskets done(new tyres aswell) so would I be right in assuming the garage has not fitted the timing belt correctly??
There was no oil in the plug wells and no apparent leaks anywhere but it does improve when put in sport mode!!
I've not had over 15.6 mpg which is a killer on my wallet,I'm now best friends at my local Shell garage!!
I've never done a timing belt yet but I'm competant working on Omega's and have all the tools to start a damn business but with the car being immaculate I don't want to 'dangle berries' the engine as it's a beauty.
Any ideas, advice would be greatly appreciated and if there's anyone near Blackburn who'd like to lend a hand I'll gladly pay for some help,I don't trust garages anymore and I've just had my shoulder op 2 weeks ago so I'm in damn pain but that does'nt stop me working on the beast.
Thanks in advance cotty :-/

i wish there was something like that for the 2.2!!!
You'll find that like the V6's your 2.2 would be easy to change the engine management chip.
For the V6 there's a phase 7 motorsport chip which is simple to install as no welding is needed so its out with the old and in with the new with a claimed extra 30bhp.
I decided against the idea due to the insurance increase and also fuel consumption!!
If your happy with what you've got,it runs well and has good mpg then stick with what you have.
I've had 34mpg out of my previous 1998 2.5V6 but that was cruising between 60-70mph on the motorway but I did that as a one off to test consumption because I like to use the performance that I've paid for and it's amazing how many V6 Omega's I've flown past on the m-way so the majority of owners can't afford to use the car for what it was designed for!!
Do any mods then let the insurance comp know as I guarantee you that if you don't and it comes to claim time you'll find that you're not covered.
Your engine was designed with the components you have so any altering has no guarantee it won't damage your car!!
Anyway he sold his cats to pay for a K&N ;D

Omega General Help / Re: bonnet release
« on: 15 May 2011, 23:06:53 »
The same thing happened to me on my old 2.0l  ::) .
Luckily on mine the cable had popped out of its mechanism inside the lever and armed with a torch and a pair of pliers I soon had it back in working order ;).
Also make sure that the cable has'nt come loose anywhere under the bonnet as this will make it bloody hard to open, the first place to check would probably be where the cable is clipped to the plastic trim just above the back of the plenum.
Hope yours is an easy fix like mine :y

My Haynes book says to raise the engine about 3cm, Page 10.17, Section 24, para 40 :-)
So does mine. :P
My Haynes book tells lots of wonderful stories but as advised in my 1st post "don't rely on" due to the instructions printed: Page 10.16, Section 24: Steering gear - removal and refitting, Models with 4-cylinder engines, para 1 - 22 where I can assure you there are no instructions or advisory notes regarding raising the engine. ;D but who's nitpickin' ;D
My previous vehicle being 1996 2.0l l6v GLS

Hi mate, had this problem last year. Firstly double check your part no!! I did'nt and ended up doing the job twice :-[.
Secondly what ever you do don't rely on the haynes manual as you'll not get the box past the transmission bell housing (if you do I'd like to know how :o.
Once you've undone all the bolts, pipes etc support the engine with a trolley jack (and piece of wood) and undo the offside engine mount and raise the engine a few inches and it should come out easily ;).
Believe me it'll save you a lot of time and knuckle skin that way.
I do believe Haynes failed to mention that during their procedure there was no engine or trans in the vehicle at the time ;D.
Hope this helps.

Omega General Help / Re: Rear Bushes??

Do what I do when the weather's too crap for arsing around under the car-take it to a few different garages where they give you a free quote, when they find the problem ask them to show you where on vehicle.Get a price for parts and labour and compare prices. Work out how long it'll take yourself to do the job compared to labour at garage.
Either way you can't put a value on your life so get an experts opinion and go easy until it's sorted.
Take care :y

At each end of the coil the spring curls round to a smaller end, you'de be best jacking the car up to take the pressure off the spring and tracing from top to bottom with your finger to make sure there are no fractures, breaks etc.
A bit of paint flaking off is'nt a problem unless there is damage there, you mentioned a gouge ?? is there an actual crack in the spring?? if so it'll need replacing.
If in doubt take it to your local garage where you should get a free inspection/quote.
I paid £80 for coil spring and handbrake sorting thats parts and labour. Hope of help :y

Hi and welcome to OOF :y
I had this very same problem on my 98 V6 Saloon.I'd only had the car a couple of days when the handling issues started ie. back end going at low speeds at roundabouts and bends also hit some water on motorway(nearly s**t myself) my local garage found no fault, said it was my driving!! No way so I took it for an early MOT where he promptly found that the drivers side rear coil spring was snapped at the bottom!!
Had that fixed and now the handling is spot on in all driving conditions :y
Before I knew what it was I was thinking of getting rid it scared me that much!! 18 years of driving with no at fault prangs so I knew it was'nt me.
A quick way to check is to run your finger around the coil all the way to check as they are hard to see where they're seated.
I'm not saying yours is the same problem, just worth a check :y

Think of how much you'll lose on depreciation on buying a new car,for what you'll lose in the first year on value you could buy a damn good Omega for that and you'll own it outright. :y
I've driven countless types of car but my current 2.5V6 Omega has to be by far the best, just wish I'd got the V6 first instead of the oilburner.
Get another Omega mate,it's the only way :y

Swap your back tyre with front or your spare if its a goodun,it'll give you a good idea if it's the tyre at fault or not!! :y

Omega General Help / Re: Knock Sensors on 98 2.5 V6
« on: 02 December 2009, 16:51:44 »
The wire I repaired was coming from the top of the EGR and was being chaffed by the Aux belt.I only checked after mechanic mentioned EGR,anyway thats obviously not the problem as the computer readout came up with knock sensors 1 + 2. I would have thought 1 might go but 2 !!!
The advice I was given was to clean each sensor and mating surfaces and reattach to between 8 + 15nm.
My first V6 so I'm at the start of the learning curve.I replaced the crank sensor on my 2.0 mig no probs I'm just hoping its not something more sinister!!!
I'll have a good look 2 moz but looking like weekend before I'll be doing work (weekends are my time) cheers  :y
