Omega General Help / starting problem
« on: 27 April 2009, 21:29:07 »
Looking for guidance re 1999 2.5 CDX auto. At least every second day this auto wont start. Cranks on full power but shows no sign of starting.
If I leave it for 30 minutes it then starts first time. no engine warning lights and it runs like a brand new car when it starts which is most of the time. I wondered if anyone else has seen this problem. have not done the paperclip test since I am more interested in a quick fix rather than a diagnostic result.

many thanks

Omega General Help / my first omega
« on: 30 January 2009, 22:58:56 »
Just bought what I believed to be a really nice 2.5 cdx auto (1999 on a V plate), with 115k miles. I paid £800 for it with short mot and 5 months road tax.
The exterior and interior are mint and it drives a treat. Black leather seats are like new. I really enjoy driving this car after many years of owning older Jag xj6's.

THE PROBLEMS.

Went to get a new mot yesterday. The mechanic who I know says it needs:  Timing belt changed because I cannot find out when it was last changed and I suggested renewing water pump at same time. Cost including labour £215. Needs front wishbones replaced £220 including labour.  This takes my total outlay to around £1300 including 12 month MOT. This seems a lot for a 1999 on a V plate.  I do like the car but I wonder if this is just the start of spending fortunes to continue driving this fine executive car.

I wonder if any members could tell me what they think.

Newbie Welcome Area / Buying an omega for the first time
« on: 17 January 2009, 21:45:40 »
am about to buy my first omega tomorrow sunday.
it is a 1999 2.5 cdx 115,000 miles with 4 owners.
it is mot'd and taxed till april this year.
it has a receipt for timing belt renewal 6000 miles ago.
cost is £800.
is this a fair price for a car in nice but not perfect condition.
are there any really serious faults to look for specific to omega.
i will obviously check for gunge on oil filler cap and radiator resevoir.
and temp guage and oil warnings when running.
hope someone can give me any pointers.
i have read loads of negative comments and an equal number of
glowing reports so i think ownership might be a slight gamble !

many thanks
