Wish I'd seen this thread earlier (no pun intended) - I might have been able to contribute something useful for once!
I'd struggled to find dowty washers when doing head work - but I thought I'd done a pretty good job of 'refurbishing' the old ones...

And I had - absolutely watertight - but also superbly electrically insulating! I'd wrapped a spiral of ptfe tape around them, a thin film of RTV then a thin fibre washer under the bolt so as not to chew up the tape.

Ooops - no temp display. Help from OOF was forthcoming - so I put a short wire from under the sensor to a nearby bolt to reinstate the ground connection.
Done.

It was E-Tech engine enamel in red. (AEE05-R).

Several light coats after a thorough degrease & clean. Reckons it’s good for 250degC, but I hope the plenum never gets near that !!!

Thanks mate.
Hey, just seeing your location… the first serious trip out from home was to Long Melford. So I can’t have been a million miles from you!!
 :)

Without the help of OOF I would never have got here. Cheers and thanks to everyone...!!

A few before & after pix to kick off. Might be useful as reference...

Everything that came off was cleaned up...

Clean and ready for new gaskets...

The amount of eggs I had to eat to get all these parts boxes...

Old & new valves...

Heads clean & ready for re-assembly...

At last - all back in - that mileage will haunt me for the rest of my days...

And then some photos of the actual car...

Bit of a departure from the previous EV themes, but I got a clean MOT this morning.
So I'm chuffed to bits. Only 970 miles since the last one !

I promised T. B. some more pix a while back so I'll do those asap.

So, Saturday I completely flushed out and replaced my brake fluid. No bubbles, but it was a disgusting brown colour.

Following the head rebuilds, and a few short local trips to bed in the new valves and all the other new parts, embarked on a 150-mile trip down to Suffolk.

Tried to go gentle and not exceed 2000rpm. All seems well so far - no leaks, noises or falters. 34mpg too, which is OK by me…

I know I keep saying it, but without the OOF team this would never have happened. Cheers.  :y

Yes that’s what it is.

Thanks mate. As instructed by The Boy, I’ll get some more pix when it’s a bit less hot.

Fully understand your comment about the tailgate - before this I had a 2.5 Elite, then before that all my cars were Volvo estates for that very reason.

Done a few short trips to make sure everything seems OK, clean cardboard under the front has shown up no drips so it’s looking promising.

Cheers…

Quick clean then a short run round the block. So far so good...

I wish you well CW. Back stuff is so unpredictably painful.

BTW. On a previous  topic (Grrrr) you asked if all pistons were coming up equal to the top of the bores. I did check but not sure I acknowledged your question/advice.

All were coming up to exactly 40 thou from the block face.

Apologies if that’s considered ’off-topic’ for here.

What have I done to my car today? Absolutely nothing.
Day before? Nothing. And so it goes on.

After 3 months of crawling underneath, on top, skinning knuckles, arms (face even!), lifting heavy objects, tightening to torques that are inhuman, I went out to ‘pop’ the lightweight fibreglass undertray back on, knelt on my cushion (my knees and concrete don’t see eye to eye) and boing!!

Can’t get up again. Fortunately I had enough strength in my arms to lever myself back up on the bumper and my toolbox.

Spent the last 5 days needing herself’s help to get my … well let’s leave it there.

So humiliating, and frustrating. If I even could get in, I wouldn’t drive it with the tray missing. That would be asking to return to square one.

So now it’s ME making the clattering noise…!

Just a slight aside, what would Mark DTM have used when he updated my auto gearbox software??

That’s fine. All I want is to see codes without having to stare at flashes (!!) and clear irrelevant ones.

Cheers T.B.
